Positives: BIGGEST POSITIVE WAS THAT THEY DIDN'T REQUIRE GUESTS TO BE DOUBLE VACCINATED AND A SIMPLE NEGATIVE TEST WAS ABSOLUTELY FINE BIG PLUS FOR THAT!!! Quick check in, big room, free car parks, Netflix available on TV, good WiFi, very comfortable bed with crisp bedding, excellent shower pressure, pub on-site but cannot hear it at all which is a bonus and I was there on New Years Eve.
Negatives: Didn't like the fact that you felt like you had to almost tippy toe when you sat on the toilet and I ain't short (5ft8in) should have been put in around 100mm shorter at a guess. Also one tiny container of body wash was available daily which was only able to service one person. Could have included a microwave to heat up left over takeaways for example (hint: Place one right on top of that massive fridge). Main room doors are extremely loud when they close as a result can hear everyone coming and going. Shower NEEDS some sort of shelving in their instead of having to bend over to get body wash/shampoo etc. Would have been nice to have some bedside drawers instead of having to place a whole bunch of things on the tiny surface that was available, don't mind living out of my bag/s but yeah a set of small bedside drawers would have been great, the "do not disturb" sign kept blowing off the handle and needs to be fixed asap as the cleaners walked in while I was using the bathroom (Hint: Add a card slot to the door instead so it doesn't have a chance to fly off), bedroom does get really hot even with all the windows open and the fan on full blast (installing air-conditioners wouldn't go a miss), Some decaf coffee sachets would also be great for those who are extremely sensitive to caffeine, also your menu stated to having Gluten-free and vegetarian options but barely saw any and was keen to spend some money but it's unfortunate I...
Read moreWe checked in after 4:30pm, and things started off a bit rough. There was no parking available, even though the listing on their website said “free parking .” We were then told it’s actually first come, first serve basis. I have a ligament tear in my knee, so we parked in the disabled parking space briefly (around 30 minutes) with the receptionist’s permission. But we made sure to move it soon after, as we know someone else might genuinely need that space. Personally, I think there should be parking available for paid hotel customers.
The room looked okay at first, but there was an odd smell that lingered the entire stay. We had just finished a 3-hour drive, so we rushed to freshen up. The shower and toilet were clean, with great water pressure and instant hot water—which we appreciated. But the showerhead was placed quite low, so my tall husband had to bend to use it. Also, ventilation in both the bathroom and room was minimal.
The bed was comfortable, the duvet was warm, and the heater worked great. We were cozy, but still couldn’t get much sleep due to the noise. Doors were constantly being shut throughout the night, and people were talking right outside the rooms. The walls were thin, so we heard everything—even during late-night bathroom visits.
Overall, it had some positives like cleanliness and warmth, but the lack of parking, noise levels, and poor ventilation really impacted our stay. Might be okay for a short visit if you're not a light sleeper—just don’t count on...
Read moreMarginal experience at best. Despite this facility being fairly modern and affordable. It isn't without it's drawbacks. Parking has been a significant issue during our stay with not enough spaces to accommodate all guests. Risk your vehicle being broken into on the street if you can't get a parking space. Staff have a "first come, first served" attitude towards this issue and prepare to hike halfway down the street once the on-site parking is full.
Also they have a on-site restaurant that is often booked out for private functions and these events can end quite late in the evening and keep other non-attending guests awake too. Don't be prepared to sleep in either, as they will begin their garden maintenance at 8am the following morning.
Housekeeping was missed despite a request card being left on the door at a reasonable time of the morning and on a separate occasion some towels were taken but not replaced on one of the days where the room was serviced.
All in all Bealey Quarter is a massive facility with many options and can have the capacity to lodge alot alot of people at once. The team obviously works hard and is friendly to deal with but the small "devil in the details" with each guest has caused a couple of unexpected speedbumps in our experience.
I know that Bealey Quarter can succeed in becoming number 1 in Christchurch for accommodation, but perhaps needs to go back to the drawing board for a few policy changes here and there to gain these bragging rights.
Best of...
