Canterbury House Christchurch — Hotel in Christchurch

This home is very clean & as others have suggested has everything you need in the kitchen, free use of washing machine, Hairdryers etc but sometimes we felt in the way. On arrival with no booking, the door opened, Alan looked at us as if we were in the total wrong place. When we asked for a room he said wait there & closed the door on us. We did end up staying 3 nights & found it functionally very good but often felt in the owners way or like we were being watched at all times. At one point as I was leaving a room another guest asked me a question, as I went to answer he closed the door in between us which I found quite rude. |Walk to town no more than 20 mins & not to far from New World if you are happy to walk...

A clean and tidy, very calm and relaxing Hostel! Lovely and helpful Hosts made my stay joyful.

FREE laundry! And enough space in the beautiful and inviting garden to relax in the sun while waiting for the clothes to get dry :)

My bed was comfy and the 3-Bed room had enough space for the luggage.

Good equipped kitchen, clean and organised, even like the (older but still good!) bathrooms :)

There is also free off-street-parking besides the house available.

Für meinen Kumpel und ich war es das erste Hostel überhaupt in Neuseeland. Dementsprechend war es uns wichtig, nach der späten Landung in Christchurch eine ruhige Umgebung zu haben, in der wir uns eingewöhnen konnten. Und die haben wir mit dem Canterbury House bekommen. Es ist ein sehr kleines, privates Hostel und bietet eine super familiäre, angenehme Atmosphäre. Der Hostelbetreiber, ein älterer Mann, ist sehr hilfsbereit und hat uns gleich am ersten Tag gezeigt, wo wir welche wichtigen Anlaufstellen (Supermärkte, Tankstellen, IRD, Banken, Bibliothek usw.) in Christchurch finden. Auch bekamen wir 100MB WiFi pro Nacht und Person, was genug ist. Wir hatten einen Twin Room für einige Nächte, danach sind wir in einen Triple Share Room gewechselt. Aber das nur aus Kostengründen; wir hatten bei beiden Räumen nichts zu bemängeln. Das Bad ist sehr groß und komfortabel, die Küche auch (gemessen an der Größe des Hostels) und aufgeräumt. Und das Haus ist grundsätzlich sehr sauber, egal ob Küche, Bad, Flur oder Schlafräume. Schon nach einem Tag kennt man jeden im Hostel, und neue Gäste lernt man ebenso schnell kennen. Man kann die Waschmaschine gratis(!) nutzen und wir haben an unserem ersten Morgen (als wir noch nichts eingekauft hatten) gratis ein Brot bekommen. Es gibt eine Katze und einen wunderbar gepflegten Garten zum Entspannen.||Die Lage ist ok: Bis zur Innenstadt muss man zu Fuß schon einige Zeit einplanen, wil das Hostel am nördlichen Rand des Stadtzentrums liegt und Christchurch nun mal sehr weitläufig ist. Aber ist halt immer noch Stadtzentrum.||Alles in allem würde ich jederzeit wieder im Canterbury House einchecken, wenn ich nochmal nach...
