ZZAN Wigram — Restaurant in Christchurch

Very Poor experience. First no service at all. If we don't come to the counter no one will come and say hi and ask what we want Food flavour is bad and price is too high for the quality. I went to other Korean restaurant today and ordered same dishes only cost 70% of the price with bigger ammount and much much much better flavour especially the seafood pancake For spicy chicken cheese, too much cheese and the fire was set too high until all cheese are burnt and no one told us to turn the fire down. Some dishes require high heat but if your dish requires slow heating please let the customers know as they are not familiar with this dish. Also the chicken was cold when served and the entire dish was bland, no flavour at all Unlike other korean restaurants, this one does not serve small dishes at all and the water bottle is not cleaned as well Overall, very bad experience. Only got few dollars off. Don't care for the few dollars. If the service or food is good I would even pay more tips but the truth is all these two are bad and I feel my money wasted. Mediocre food that was not worth the price, with a side of terrible service.

We went for lunch at 11:40, 10 minutes after the restaurant opening for the day. The waiter that came to take us to the table didn’t utter a word of “hello” or “welcome” or even a smile. We placed our order of a medium tteokbokki, the waiter came to check our gas bottle for the tabletop stove. But when our order came, we waited for more than 15 minutes for it to boil which at that point the gas ran out. When we asked for help, the same waiter came to switched the gas to a new bottle. I said thank you, with no response. His attitude was poor, as if we annoyed him or we owed him something. There was only one other table at the restaurant at the time so it wasn’t as if they were swamped.

The dish was average. The sauce tasted bland and with only rice cakes, a bit of sliced cabbage and carrots, fish cakes and one hard boiled egg - this dish was not worth the price.

Suggestions: front of house staff should have the basic etiquette of greeting customers...

Update: came back again after a year or so as I don't live in CHCH. STILL YUM!!

Food is delicious here 🤤. Pictured is the medium rose tteokbokki, zzan combo (sweet & spicy, soy garlic), spicy pork & squid. The rose tteokbokki is so delicious as you let the dish stew for longer on the cooktop, creates a thick rich creamy super seafoody umami tasting broth. Fried chicken came out fresh, hot & crispy. Sweet and spicy does have a kick that builds up, so if you can't do a mild spicy at all.. this is probably abit too spicy for you. Soy and garlic is a classic. Spicy pork and squid was good, not too spicy. Not pictured is the seafood pancake, I liked this too, we ordered too much so had to take away.
