Columbus at Mitre 10 Gisborne — Restaurant in Gisborne

Lots of parking. Have to walk through Mitre 10 to get in and out. Would be nice to have a separate entrance. Lots of seating inside of various styles, and outside patio style and communal by the children's playground. Friendly service. Good selection of cabinet and menu items. Were advised of a half hour wait on the food but waited just over an hour with quite a large discrepancy between dishes, eg 20 mins between 1st and last dish being served which made for an uncomfortable polite wait before eating together. Meals were delicious though and of a good portion size. Loved the loaded wedges, although sauces were not served on the side as requested. Usually come in and food is good but today was the complete opposite. Food wasn’t cooked, my halloumi was practically uncooked and my “toasted ciabatta” was warm bread. They put our food in take away boxes even though we were clearly here to dine in and didn’t request the food as takeaway and when we told the worker they quickly ran off and didn’t even offer us a plate or cutlery and left us there to eat out of the takeaway boxes that we stated we didn’t want. The food itself is very good on a good day, Quality and attention to detail varies from visit to visit, though more often than not they let themselves down.

Today's visit we ordered identical orders for breakfast and there was about 15 minutes between the first and second plate coming out. - kinda ruins the vibe. - If I hadn't already paid I would have sent it back.

On my previous visit ciabatta bread was served without butter...

Its often good, but they just let themselves down too often unfortunately on things that are reasonably easy...
