We booked in at Good Neighbour to celebrate a very special family celebration and were expecting great service as we have previously experienced. Sadly, what we received was anything but. Despite there being a minimal numbers of diners in the restaurant, we overheard other diners being informed that there be a lengthy wait for their meals. Not deterred, we sat down and ordered drinks. My daughter in law, who is highly allergic to citrus, ordered a pineapple juice, only to be served an orange juice. Thankfully, she realised the mistake however when bringing this to the attention of staff, was simply informed āweāre still learningā Then came the time to order. No fish, no beef, no chicken, probably would have been quicker to tell us what was available. My mistake but I thought this was a restaurant. 50 minutes later our food arrived, although Iām my case this was simply a bowl of fries, one of the things on the menu still available. Unfortunately, another family member who had specifically requested that no mayonnaise be put in her burger found it smothered. All issues were bought to the attention of the Manager who acknowledged that the service was well below an acceptable standard. Quite frankly, the whole celebration was ruined and this family will not be returning. I have never previously been compelled to write a review but such was this experience, this is an exception. Not even worthy of one star, Good neighbour, good...
Read moreVery average meal tonight I'm afraid, I just paid $39 for a meal I could've cooked at home for $15. It was not of restaurant quality! I had the sirloin steak, which was cooked nicely, tasted good, quite gristly however and that was ok I could live with that, but It also said it was served with duck fat roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. There was no way the potatoes were roasted in duck fat. They were like sautéed soggy small cubed potatoes and I would be very surprised if they were actually duck fat roasted. The seasonal veges were chunky cut up roasted beetroot and orange kumara only, with NO other greens and just kind of stuffed under the steak with a random aoli type sauce way over in the corner of the dish.
Yes I should've asked what the seasonal vegetables were but also the waitress should've offered that information to us. The rest of the meals were pretty good and that's why I gave it a 3 star but if I was paying $39 on my own as a meal for what I got, it would be a sure fire 2 star!
Come on guys it's not often people go out for dinner and it's a lot of money nowadays to treat yourself, so have a think about how you would receive the meal you've just produced and given ti the customer!
Would've taken a photo but didn't want to embarrass the...

My wife and I eat out all the time and were totally embarrassed tonite by our sub standard dining EXPERIANCE AT GOOD GEORGE ROTOTUNA the meal was not only average but the service was sub standard. Judgement calls were made by inexperianced staff (Georgia) and Manager as to the intoxication of myself which effected the evening of celebration of my family and friends. We have been as a family from waihi beach a fevernt supporter of GOOD GEORGE products since the first time I tried GOOD GEORGE beer. You may not care wwhether I dis your product or not but take it from me and everyone I can tell I will diss it from now on. I was intending to approach GOOD GEORGE about a commercial enterprise but they can stick it up their arse. You may think Im only a passx through but I do matter in the scheme of things as you will find out. We were overcharged by your incredibly average establishment. Your management needs to reveiw its staffing. Prior to this incident I have been to GOOD GEORGE ROTOTUNA several times and had...
