I love the atmosphere of this place and it’s so special that I wanted this experience to be great, but it just wasn’t. I called ahead to make sure they were still open and was told their kitchen closes at 2:30. When I arrived at 1:45 I was disappointed to be told their kitchen was closed despite me calling 10 minutes prior. I wasn’t ready to give up just yet so I ordered a “gf toastie” from the cabinet for me and their mini croissants for my daughter. I also got coffee a shake and juice. Here comes the disappointment, my coffee was bitter but I added sugar determined to enjoy our date, then the wrong toastie arrived (I have a serious allergy so if I didn’t notice I would have gone to hospital) my daughters croissants were so dry that almost the entire slice of cheese had turned that yellow shade that it does when you leave your cheese in the fridge without a wrapper for a week. The salami was also multiple shades or worrying. I told her not to eat it. The shake arrived an was delicious so yay there was something good! And also the waitress taking care of us was friendly and really apologetic about the toastie mistake when she brought me my replacement. I hoped that would be the end of the disappointments but I opened my toastie and it was clearly so old that the bread just pulled itself apart. The texture of the bread was wet and squishy. The contents of the toastie was mushrooms and bacon which was certainly not advertised and should have been because I expected a gf toastie to contain cheese and possibly tomato. I’m not usually a review writing person but this experience was so so disappointing and I’m sorry to say we could barely stomach the food and left after a...

Terrible experience for a birthday brunch.

  1. booked a table for 11 - they sent us confirmation and a QR code. When we arrived, they were not expecting us and did not have a table set up for our group.

  2. prices and menu on their website were vastly different from the menu in the cafe

  3. fish and chips was $28 and came with 1 small piece of fish. Beer battered chips came out floppy, barely warm and tasteless. Not worth the price.

  4. mince on toast with poached egg …. Came with a HARD poached egg and about 1/2 cup of mince. Shocking portion size for $24

  5. coffee order was correct on the final bill but did not come out to the table correctly. We drank anyway, not wanting to make a fuss.

  6. many of the meals were cold. Made us think that they were left on a bench somewhere so meals could come out together.

  7. …. Having said that, final mince on toast arrived after everyone had finished eating.

  8. onion rings were the first thing we ordered. They arrived after everyone had finished eating (except the final mince meal) and were cold.

  9. several instances where staff came to our table asking us, ‘did you order this?’ (Which we hadn’t). We were terrified that we would be billed for meals we didn’t order or eat.

Staff were friendly and helpful but the quality and cost of the meals, timing of delivery (and the fact that they cannot give you an itemised receipt without going to a back office for 15 mins to print) means that we would NEVER recommend, nor would we return.

Terribly...

Went to Jukebox diner for my mums 60th birthday. Called jukebox diner to make dinner reservations for 6pm without realizing that the diner closes at 6pm. The staff were very helpful and said they would be able to accomodate us. We pre ordered our meals and arrived at 6pm where the staff were waiting and had already started preparing our dinner. Upon arrival we were met by happy friendly staff and our meals were ready before we knew it. There was a bit of a misunderstanding with our order over the phone and we were served a couple of extra dishes to which we were not charged for. The food was delicious and the servings very generous we weren't able to eat everything and had to take some home. The decor was amazing and the atmosphere very relaxed. We had 3 young children and the children's area was the perfect place for them to play while us adults were able to eat our meals. We really appreciate the staff for going above and beyond to accommodate us we had an awesome time and my mum really enjoyed her birthday. Thankyou Jukebox diner we will...

You don’t see many places like this here in NZ, and it’s such a joy to be in a space where the juke box is playing, the seating is retro, the food is decent sized (no one could finish their meal) and the “specialty shakes” were so delicious, you don’t want to share ;) There is a little area for kids to play (play pen sized) and some antique looking cars (used to be coin operated) that kids can play on. After our lunch, we went to the Car Museum (attached to the diner) and really enjoyed the fact we spent a rainy day eating and exploring vintage vehicles. The cost for the Car Museum was $20pp for the adults, and our 2 year old was free. If you’re looking for a unique thing to do in Hamilton, I recommend coming here. If you’re looking for A Class, I recommend you look elsewhere :)

I'll start with the positive, the curly fries were amazing and very plentiful. The burgers were terrible tbh, obviously made from the cheapest ingredients possible, cold, tasteless and barely edible. The burger bun wasn't even toasted and my whole burger tasted of nast cheap ketchup and mustard, not even decent sauces. Thankfully we came as First Table customers, so only paid half price for the meal, otherwise I would never pay $20-25 for a burger like that. The 2 girls working were pleasant enough but the service was poor, being a diner we thought our orders would be taken at the table, but we had to order at counter (which is not so bad) but had to keep going back up for other things instead of being served. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
