Mondo Cafe — Restaurant in Hawke's Bay

Although the food is very tasty, it's also quite expensive. The seating is quite cramped and not overly comfortable. The coffee is reasonably priced and tasty enough. Because of its location attached to the New World supermarket, there's not any ambience or atmosphere to speak of, and there is really nothing in the way of a compelling or interesting view out the rather large windows. I usually find it is overly warm inside the cafe year-round. During the summer it's often uncomfortable in terms of temperature within the cafe. It does have a very convenient and central location, and usually there is enough parking available since the cafe is attached to the supermarket. The cafe also sells alcohol of many different kinds. There are a range of pre prepared foods as well as meals that can be ordered. It appears to be a very popular place for those over the age of 50 or 60. The decor is starting to look dated and tired these days and it could do with a revamp. The staff are usually reasonably friendly, efficient and serve with a smile. The cafe has a lot of potential but it will require some attention to really spruce it up and create a little bit...

I don't usually put reviews for businesses because anyone can have an off day, but this one warrants one, and I will expand on why below. I ordered an americano coffee because is a shot of coffee and then diluted with just a shot of hot water. I do this because a long black is brewed completely from one shot of coffee and becomes, to my taste, bitter and oily. Unfortunately my americano was brewed like a long black. It was very oily on the surface and the taste was too bitter, again, to my taste. But after all I am paying $5 for my coffee and would really appreciate to be served what I ordered. I went to a member of the staff and advised that the coffee I was served, and paid for, was not what I had ordered. The only reply I received was: "oh ok. You can put some feedback online." I had not drank, but just tasted the coffee, so at least I would have expected to be offered for it to be replaced with the coffee I had ordered and paid for - nope. Too bad mister, give feedback. I just left the coffee there and left. Terrible service. Never going back again and will...

As the weather turned a bit cooler I decided to have a mocha. When I finally got it , sadly it was cold. I mentioned this to one of the staff who said she would tell other staff member , but no apology or replacement happened. As I had to wait I noticed numerous times how the staff would go to a table with food or beverages but the customers at the tables looked bemused as it wasn't their order. This happened quite a few times in the time I was seated here. The customers at the table next to me rejected the order brought to them as it wasn't what they ordered. I don't know what was going on all I know is I won't be back or recommending this place. It seemed the staff didn't know at all what they were doing and it wasn't like they were short...
