We live two minutes walk away from Ichigo Ichie, so there is little excuse not to try their flavoursome delights. Truth is, we don’t need to make an excuse, not in the slightest. The incredible quality of the food; the friendly service and the ambience are more than enough to entice even the most discerning diner back for more.
It’s not just the range on offer and I include the Saki in this as there is one for every taste; it’s the way the dishes are prepared, the flavours that bursts through every amazing mouthful.
I’m a creature of habit where Chicken Teryaki is concerned, and I can confidently say, this is the best I’ve ever had in Auckland. Maybe it’s a trade secret in terms of how they make it taste this way; but it’s simply stunning.
My fiancé had the Teryaki Chicken and noodles on our most recent visit, presented in what looked like a porcelain boat; that’s the other thing: presentation is a cut above at Ichigo.
Our meal was rounded off wonderfully with the deep fried Mochi Balls, served in a decadent chocolate sauce. Delicious!
With a friendly farewell, we know we’ll be back soon. Rothesay Bay is blessed to have the Japanese of choice, it’s a local delight, a hidden gem for all of Auckland and...
Read moreI visited this gyukatsu spot with my wife for an unexpectedly special celebration. The place had a cozy, warm, wooden interior that felt very inviting. Surprisingly, it wasn't crowded for a Friday evening. We got a nice window seat tucked behind a tree, which added to the relaxed atmosphere.
We ordered their popular 180g gyukatsu - it was tender and really reminded us of the kind we had in Japan. The dipping sauces were great, and everything came with a good variety of sides. We both loved it. It was more than enough for my wife, who had been feeling hungrier than usual.
I went with the tonkatsu, which was a solid, crispy pork cutlet. I especially liked the nutty flavour of the salad dressing that came with it. As a starter, we shared the spicy cauliflower, which was just the right portion. The gochujang-based sauce paired nicely with it.
Overall, it’s a great spot for a date - definitely recommended for couples or anyone looking to enjoy an authentic gyukatsu experience...
Read moreShhhhhhhhh. Don't tell too many people otherwise I might not get a seat here. We are super stoked to have such an amazing local restaurant. The food here is really good. Far better than a little Japanese in Rothesay Bay would normally be. We especially love the Ugly Karaage Chicken but everything we have had has been excellent. On our last visit we had the dinner set and my oh my. So much food! At $50 per head it might not be a normal mid-week option but it was so worth it. Our son really loves the inside out Salmon maki and this is a winner also. The wasabi is very good quality which lifts the sushi offering. The wine list is well chosen. There is Asahi on tap. The staff, especially the young female owner (I think she is anyway??) are personable, warm and knowledgeable. There is so much to like. And it's...
