My mum and I stopped in this morning, after getting off the ferry. It's a five minute walk from the ferry dock. The menu was a little confusing as all I could see for a drinks menu was iced. I ordered an iced coffee, which turned out to be an iced latte. As it was 9:30am we were looking for a breakfast type meal. I asked about bacon and egg pies and the owner mentioned they were currently focused on British food. He suggested we try their scotch eggs or English eggs. We both chose the English eggs and were surprised the woman working just put them on a plate and handed them to us, as the signage said they would heat things in the oven. The coffees were nice. The English eggs were a disaster. They had clearly been made earlier in the day as they were on the cool sode of room temperature. Because of this they were hard to get down. Very oily, with big lumps of fat, which was congealed and coated the sides of your mouth. I ate about a third of mine and threw the rest away. Its clearly a popular spot, as a few regulars came by while we were there. But I assume these people take their pies home and reheat them? Fatty meat should not be served cold, or there should be a sign that they are meant to be taken home to be reheated. The worst part is the minute I got home I was very sick. As that was the only thing I'd eaten today, it was clear I'd been sick from the oily food. My stomach still hurts and I will not...
Read moreWe bought 2 cornish pasties from this place, first time. VERY disappointing!!!! They were dry inside with very minimal meat and only potato and nothing else!!! We have bought FAR better cornish pasties from a bakery, but thought this place looked like the real thing..ah no!!! We also bought a steak and cheese, and a fish pie which we have yet to eat. We certainly hope they will be better otherwise we just WASTED $53.30!!!! Ok...tks for getting back to me. We had the fish pie and NZ Kiwi steak pie for dinner. My husband LOVED the potato topped fish pie, (which didnt have pastry 👍) and i had the steak pie (advertised as NZ Kiwi pie, nothing like it). The meat was dry and no gravy, like a good old NZ pie has. Basically, i think the main problem with your pies is the pastry!! Its very hard and tasteless. If you made them out of "flakey puff" pastry and added some gravy, they might be better. And as for the price, at a restaurant a main meal can be $30 per person which is much better value. I also agree with a previous comment about showing your...
Read moreWe are tasting our way through NZL real fruit ice cream and this one is definitely up there. There is a good range of flavours with some unique creations like caramelised peach, which I haven’t seen anywhere else and would need to try it one day! You can also pick a sauce to go on your ice cream and it comes with a shortbread surprise 😊 – nice touch. We haven’t tried the pies or pastries, but there was a good range with sweet and savoury options all looking appetising. We decided to stop over on our way back from the Shakespear Regional Park. The Kitchen Door is located in a nice spot and while you are indulging in your treat of choice you can check out all the boats in the harbour. The owner is very nice and welcoming, with great stories to tell including his career in London working at The Savoy!!! When you decide to pop over you know you will be...
