Just had the WORST service experience at Maya's. We have been to Maya's multiple times because the South Indian buffet is fantastic. Today, we walked in after being to the mechanics to repair our car, and of course, we were extremely casually dressed. The discrimination started as soon as we stepped in. I went to the counter to pay for 2 buffet meals while my husband was seated with our baby in a table of 4. Firstly, I was told by the manager/ owner to move to a table of 2. I said, "Sure, we will do that if you provide us with a high chair." He then said that he did not see the baby with my husband. But no, they did not have a high chair according to him. We were allowed to sit in that table of 4. Fine so far. Then we see another family being seated, and they were offered a booster seat for their baby. We let that go. Then we start eating. As all buffets, it is a self-service one. However, they serve fresh dosas on the table. They then serve every table multiple times, skipping us every single time. They were also serving to the ones who came after us. Once or twice, it could be an oversight. But not every single time. Then I reminded them twice, but still nothing. In fact, the manager went up to every other table asking how everything was, but we were not fortunate enough to be visited by him even once. We don't care about that. I just could not take what was happening and went up to him to tell him what he and his staff are doing. Then he told me that he didn't see us. I mean, come on. It is a tiny restaurant, and if you do not see your customers, then you have got a very big problem. We decided to walk out promising never to return again. And no, I did not get my dosa. The big takeaway from this experience is - we are being discriminated against by our very own. Note to others - Dress expensive. There might be a chance you will be personally served by...
Read moreHorrible Service & Even Worse South Indian Food – Stay Away!
I had high expectations for Maya Restaurant in Flat Bush, thinking I’d get authentic South Indian cuisine, but what I got was a complete disaster. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely pathetic—staff were rude, inattentive, and completely uninterested in serving customers. We had to wait ages just to place an order, and when the food finally arrived, it was beyond disappointing.
The dosas were soggy, the idlis were dry and hard, and the sambar tasted like watered-down curry with zero flavor. It felt like they had no idea what South Indian food is supposed to taste like. Even the chutneys were bland and lifeless—how do you mess up coconut chutney? The food was so bad that even street vendors would do a better job.
On top of that, the portions were tiny for the price, and the overall hygiene of the place was questionable. When we raised concerns, the staff just shrugged it off without a care. Zero customer service, zero effort, zero quality.
If you’re craving real South Indian food, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but here. This place is a complete waste of money and time. Avoid...
Read moreUpon ordering for a buffet, one of the staff members came and told me that sharing is not allowed as he assumed I'm sharing the plate which I was not. When confronted that it's actually rude to assume such things towards their customers his excuse was that he was only informing me.... well then why not inform ALL your customers Just because my wife is sitting at the same table doesn't mean she is eating...
If your waiter has something to say, then teach them how to put their message forward to customers...
Why single out only me? Apart from the buffet, my wife and I had ordered 2 other separate dishes and drinks as well... If sitting with my wife is ASSUMED to be sharing the buffet plate... Then where else shall I sit????
Looking at the owners reply to my post simply shows that you trust your workers with a blind eye... And for the owners kind information... We did PAY for the other dishes we had ordered The only refund was for the buffet which we did not FINISH because of your so called KIND staff
Being the owner, learn to correct your workers and first get to the root of an issue before posting to a...
