Spices Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Howick

My family and I used to come here for many years as it was our "go to" thai place when dining out and takeaways. Lately we have noticed the portions have gotten noticeably smaller for takeaways. Yesterday we tried to call to place an order for takeaway, we called 9x and the phone would ring then disconnect. So we drove to the restaurant and when we got there, upon arrival we were asked if we placed an order via phone or online. My partner explained that he tried to call many times but couldn't get through due to the call not going through. He was then told it would be an hour wait time for takeaway orders as they are too busy as it was Mother's Day. The person he dealt with was not pleasant, nor helpful nor apologetic. Made us feel like we were an inconvenience!! So we decided to take our money elsewhere to another Thai resturant. After that experience, we will no longer be coming to this restaurant with service that is abysmal with poor customer...

After Sunday service, husband and myself went out for lunch. I ordered mixed entrees.. chicken wings and spring rolls for entree. For my Main dish yum ..Tom noodle soup.chicken, no spices...while husband ordered lunch jubilation pork ..very mild I specifically requested for my dish to be prepared with no spices. A response was; we do not serve non spices food here. But mild is ok. My main dish was so spicy more than what the lady recommended.(very mild). After I tasted it; then it's a NOT for me. Spoiled my apetite. She could have been more polite with her people skills and attitude 🙄 towards customers. Table service was terrible with no table mats, my pot of green tea overflowed onto a bare table top! Woman you're in the wrong profession. The restaurant was not even full of waiting customers at that time. Get your acts together! I ended up next door to Jesters takeaway for pies and savouries after and thoroughly loved them mince and cheese...

This place is absolutely ridiculous, I ask for a vegetarian pad Thai with no egg and no tofu with extra veggies. They refused to give me extra veggies and asked me to pay an extra $3. I asked them what is the cost for extra egg and extra tofu they told me it's $3 for egg $3 for tofu so that's $6 for both. My order already saved them $6.

This doesn't seem fair and said they cannot substitute anything. They said I need to pay for extra veggies and if I'm not happy with it I can go somewhere else.

Their customer service is absolutely horrific and I do not plan to go there ever again.

The pad thai isn't that great either good thing Nana Thai restaurant is near by and their pad thai taste way better. I only went to spices Thai because they are usually quite with fast food. Nana Thai is always busy and takes long but the food is worth the wait.

I suggest you skip this place and go to NaNa Thai...
