First time visiting The Black Shag Espresso Bar and Eatery, I found the staff to be friendly, helpful and willing to wait until all members of my group knew what they wanted to order. We ordered the following Reuben Sandwich, Bacon and Egg Wrap, French Toast w/ Bacon, Banana and Maple Syrup, Cheese and Tomato Toastie and 4 large Mochas. Conscious of refined sugars and reducing them as far as possible through experiementation and iñnovation. And the soy milk appeared to be natural and not reconstituted from bean flour. It was also sugar-free, unlike the premade barista soy loaded with sugar that I often experience elsewhere. Its important to know your sugar consumption, especially if you dont want become chubby or if you are using insulin. All round, gorgeous food and pleasant progressive cafe....

Dropped in for brunch with the missus on the way down to eye surgery from Queenstown.

Ordered the special: bubble and squeak. One of the best brunches I’ve had in years of national/international travel. Beautifully assembled, generous, perfectly seasoned and full of pleasant surprises. Obviously made with the love of good food! Coffee great too.
