Cox House Cafe — Restaurant in Kaipātiki

A very unwelcoming experience, From the moment I walked in none of the two staff working there acknowledged me or said anything, they just ignored me and carried on with what they were doing. It took several minutes which seemed like forever to get served, even though the cafe was near empty, the staff member didn't even say hello, just asked what I wanted (latte - take away). So waited outside with my dog, this cafe is supposed to be dog friendly, but the water bowl was empty and dirty, one of the staff walked past several times and didn't even ask if I wanted water for my dog! Very sad. The wait for the coffee extremely long, after 5 minutes I went back in and saw that she was still making other coffees, she was very slow at making them and I'd expect this process to be much more efficient and faster. Finally my coffee was done and again no thank you or an ounce of friendliness expressed. I've been here a few times before, and its virtually the same attitudes each time. Decided to spend the Easter Sunday here with a big group since I remember having a good first experience when we first visited. I was gonna let a few things slide but seeing the previous reviews, thought it’d be best to share my/our experience this time around.

None of the other members of the group has ever been here but I advised that my previous experience here was really good before so it wouldn’t disappoint. When I made my order, I asked the staff if I needed to buy a side of fries if the portion wouldn’t be enough and they told me it would be. Anyway, when the food finally started rolling in, everyone was shocked (including me) about the portion of the food. It was nothing like what was pictured on the reviews here! The burger and fries only had a handful of fries with it and the bacon eggs and benedict barely covered the plate.

I just reviewed how much we paid for the brunch as it felt the bill was excessive for what has been ordered and I found out that I was overcharged $9 - $12. Looks like I was charged $15.50 for meal that was advertised as $12.50.

Returned a few days after my review below, and thanks for the response. Once again great food, excellent service this time and good coffee. My score this time is 4.5 stars. If the otherwise delicious potato and pumpkin fritata had been a bit warmer I would have rated my experience 5 stars.

Great food. Coffee OK but will specify double shot next time I order a large flat white. Service not so flash.
