Mr Katsu Wiri — Restaurant in Manurewa

I came across this "gem" a few months ago after running errands in the evening on a week night and wanting sushi and also needed to get some food for kids but wasn't sure what place would still be open after 7pm. At first I wasn't sure if they were still serving as there was no sushi in their cabinet. I asked the server if they were still able to do the platters and she said that they made everything fresh. My friend and I ended up ordering food to eat in while we waited for the platters to go for home crispy chicken on rice with Japanese curry and it was DELICIOUS. Platters were made fresh and kids demolished the food at home with leftovers for lunch the next day. Staff were so friendly and the server offered to add 4 chicken katsu bowls to a platter.

After that first time I've been back to order platters for work lunch as well. Consistently good and always accommodating🙌 Also love they're open a little later than other places and their bubble tea especially taro milk tea...

I’ve been a costumer with mr katsu for 5 years my first store being their store in Auckland city I was very excited when I heard they were coming out south Auckland, the reason I loved this store was because of the quality of food hence my excitement, this store in particular did very well at first in the first couple months, the chicken on chips in particular was filled with chicken but as of lately they have been filling up the chips to the very top with only a small amount of Chicken which is never how it was like these workers who are new here are ruining this franchise. In particular the wiri branch the workers there are very robotic not sense of emotion and this was never how things were like they are ruining the place I grew to love they need to background check there workers and put the quality and quantity back into making there food. Sign says “all sushi $1”, but only selected sushi is $1, which is still awesome pricing, and worth checking out. Service is average (on 23/05/2025) but the food itself really makes up for it. Dine in space isn’t fancy or the cleanest but if you’re passing through quickly like us, it’s fine. A mixture of people in the store while we were there from labour workers, singles, parents + school kids. Affordable food...
