Came here for dinner with the missus after work one day. Heard a few people rave about this place so I decided to pop by. Being Malaysian, I had to try the three main staple dishes - chicken rice, char kway teow, and nasi lemak.
Decor is simple but adequate. It kept the place lit enough to see your food but had a rather reddish tinge to the atmosphere. Service was quick and effective, and we had our food within 10 minutes of sitting down and ordering our dishes.
I had heard a fair bit of hype about the nasi lemak which is a staple Malaysian dish. So the dish I ordered was a curry beef with nasi lemak. Unfortunately, the hype was a lot stronger than the actual dish. The rice lacked coconut milk and the rice was sticky rather than individual grains. The beef cut used was short ribs, lovely and tender...but let us down in terms of flavour. It started off well on the tongue but ended up not progressing further.
The chicken rice was another hyped up dish and if I was to ever say that I could do better than a proper restaurant, it meant that the dish wasn't great. And guess what? I could have done better. The rice again, lacked the flavour of being soaked and steamed in chicken stock and herbs. The chicken, supposedly silky smooth, ended up dry and the soy sauce and sesame oil combo did not end up saturating the chicken either.
It's not a complete disappointment though. The char kway teow was the most authentic of the lot and brought me back to my childhood. The "wok hei" was present from the moment the dish was presented. The noodles were fried in pork lard which added that additional richness. And a surprising addition was "lap cheong" which is a Chinese chorizo. Sliced thin, it crisped up perfectly and added a heap of texture to a usually rather plain dish.
Would I go back? For that char kway teow, yes. Everything else? Meh. I've got...
Read moreOrdered twice from Blossom Court. First one wasn't as impressive (no one's fault, we opted for the not-so-regular preparation). We ordered Char Kwey Teow and Marmite chicken. Noodles we're good, nothing amazing and Marmite chicken was sweet. Again, they were good but not something we would try again. Second order was amazing. We opted for Char Mee (fried yellow noodles), roti canai with chicken curry and sambal fried rice. All 3 were brilliant. One of the best Malaysian roti's I've tried and the noodles were amazing too. I was impressed with the fried rice, their sauce was pretty good. Must visit when in Panmure. Wish I had taken photos of my second order 😂.
Edit 2: Tried their fried noodles for the first time - hate the fact that I forgot what it was called (help). Pretty sure it was N07 - the lovely lady said it's noodles with curry powder and tomato. I remember this much coz N08 was with sweet soy sauce (again, forgot it's name). Noodles were brilliant, mix of Indian and East Asian flavors which work, maybe I'm biased coz I'm of Indian origin. Getting them again for sure.
Chicken Curry Laksa is brilliant as always, and we love getting a roti on the side to dunk it in their amazing curry.
