The management team at this bar have absolutely no clue as to how to run an evening event. We came for the 'Stand up Comedy' night last night 22nd Sept and it was an absolute shambles.
We arrived early so that we didn't have to fight for seats (nearly the first people there). The management team had decided at that stage the comedy would be in a side room away from the main area of the pub due to the fact that I assume they had patrons in there watching the All Blacks.
The comedy evening was scheduled to start at 7.30pm and at around 7.25 the staff came through and one by one ushered people from this side room over to other spare tables they could find within the pub. This was actioned in no particular order and those who had just arrived were shifted ahead of us and to better tables. I was quite calm at this point and just went with the flow. I only began to be internally frustrated at the stage we were the second to last ones to move.
We then were sat at the back of the room on a bar leaner table (which was incredibly uncomfortable). Not only this but the bar was completely disorganised for the comedy event and those patrons already in the bar were refusing to leave as they were having dinner or were being asked to pay the $20 fee for the comedy night. Some of which who were drunk, took this offer up.
Not only did the bar then wait a further 40 minutes until the rugby had finished but even when it did kick off, there was a bar full of people who were either only just joining the event given they were just there anyway or frustrated people who had pre-booked and paid and being ushered to the back of the room. This therefore meant that there was a mix match of people there and some completely disinterested in the comedy.
We were sitting behind a family who were just there for dinner and being asked to leave as they didnt want to pay for the comedy. Rightly so they finished off their meals, however those who were there for the comedy sat behind a table of people talking and chatting away (having their dinner as normal people do).
The organisation of this management team was atrocious.
To top off the completely appalling experience, we were then sitting there mid-show where the bar staff walked around every table who had been there for a while and asked them to settle up the bills and that if we wanted more drinks we would have to go up to the bar to order them and then either pay for them then or what set up a new tab given we had already settled.
We had a bill for a couple of beers, breads (which had tiny little dips/sauces with them and cost $19) and calamari which came to a total of $115 which I would never do again at a place like this.
What could have been a great night was actually terrible and all down to the complete disorganisation and lackluster effort by the bar, its management & staff.
I would strongly urge this bar to never have events like this in the future given they have no idea what they are doing and also to anyone look to attend an event here... don't.
0/0 stars from me. Particularly the manager that just...
Read moreThe short: Good - Nice food, great decor and scenery, good strong coffee. Bad - Slow Service, Not value for money, unhappy staff.
The Long: Picture this, you've had a cafe recommended to you by a friend, you arrive and are greeted by a friendly front of house staff member, you pay $35 for a breakfast burger, eggs on toast and 2 x drinks. You must then wait $1 for every minute before you have to ask where your food is, to be told it's 5 minutes away, then wait another 10. We waited for almost 45 minutes, for literally just a burger (with no sides or salad), 2 pieces of toast and two eggs. The coffees however arrived on time and were a good kick for the money. While we waited for the chefs to apparently mix the dough and bake the bread, we witnessed 2 x couples with children, stand up and walk out after waiting for roughly 15 minutes without anyone coming to ask if they were ready to order. To see people leaving a cafe, shaking their heads in disapproval after hearing so many good things is appalling.
This all happened on a Sunday morning around the 9:15 am time frame ... and you may argue, that perhaps they were too busy ... and I will admit, that at the time of our leaving, most of the cafe was full. But as the cafe was half full on arrival, and several staff seemed more interested in putting cutlery on tables than asking customer what they wanted and serving, there is really no excuse for such a disappointing display of customer service.
I though that perhaps a 2 star rating was more accurate ... but when the meals arrived I immediately felt like I have been duped. The flavor was fine, but unfortunately, after seeing the unhappy staff (bar one), the poor and slow service, the lack of thank you to the majority of customers I saw leaving / paying ... I couldn't find room for that 1 extra star.
Perhaps this is a good place ... Perhaps all the positive reviews are true and we simply caught them on a bad day... Perhaps it is the nice place most people say it is ...
I wouldn't know, and as far as a first impression goes ... I will not...

I visited Maude on a Saturday morning. First arriving when it wasn't too busy. I was quickly served and seated at a table and drink order taken, iced latte and this was brought to my table in a timely manner and was very nice.
I then had some clients I was meeting arrive (meanwhile Maude was getting busier as it neared lunch time) and they also ordered 2x coffee's which still arrived in a timely manner.
After our meeting, my partner and son joined me for lunch. The Cafe was busy but not overly.
Our waitress was lovely. Loved her service and approachability. Unfortunately that's the only good thing about my experience once my clients left. The food we ordered took so long to arrive with no warning of the wait time, the table next to us was served raw eggs and after waiting a fair while for my eggs benedict (pricey) they forgot bacon and it was very, very plain. No seasoning at all in the rosti's either. My partners eggs on toast was disappointing and pricey for what he got. And my son's pancakes were very dry, thank god they serve some whipped cream with it or this would of been inedible.
Also the older man working in the cafe, possibly the owner?? Has terrible customer service etiquette. Will interrupt you at your table while talking, sometimes doesn't say anything at all when dropping off food at tables and forgot a customers scone order which they had to chase up.
Over all, seems they need more staff during those busier times and another chef to support the main chef.
Unfortunately will only be returning if any future clients want a meeting in that area as I did enjoy the first coffee and the environment of the Cafe is nice. Lovely outdoor area.
2/5 - 2 stars for the nice 1st coffee and friendly waitress we had but...
