What's happened to the great Cafe Melbourne ?? This used to be our favourite cafe in Thames, but sadly, after two bad experiences in a row, I don't think we'll go back. And it's not the food, but one particular staff member, who doesn't seem to have any customer skills at all. We ordered 4 coffees and when they arrived, there was a big confusion about which one belonged to who, and my friend ended up with my oat milk one, so I had to reorder. Now clearly, that wasn't our fault, but the serving girl got really grumpy and blamed us for not paying attention, when the coffees were put in front of us. How rude we thought. We were also told in a not very nice way that we couldn't have our favourite breakfast, as the menu had changed just one minute ago, and no effort was even made to go and ask the kitchen staff whether they could do it or not. Everything seemed to much for that staff member, and there were no smiles or friendliness. We thought this was all very embarrassing, as we were trying to show off our favourite eating place to our friends that had just come all the way from Matamata to dine at the Melbourne. Reading through your reviews, I noticed we aren't the only people who have had a bad experience with grumpy staff. Who ever is the boss in this place, you have got to do something about that. You have just lost another 4...

Wow wow wow we travel to Thames often and had been eating local takeaways but yesterday we were looking for a more wholesome meal so we googled as you do and as it turns out we were parked just down the road. On a Saturday afternoon it was an inviting environment with really friendly staff so we decided to eat from the menu. My adult kids had The Poaka me te Aporo which is Pork and Apple and when it arrived it was beautiful with its cooked pork and fresh with multi layered apple laden salad and they tucked in, I ordered the Pot of Gold a throw back to Ireland it had Short Rib first time I have had one before because I don’t usually eat meat and what I was really excited about was it came with a Colcannon which I know is an Irish potato dish mixed with other veges. This plate arrived and by Golly it was not just beautiful to look at it was delicious. Did I expect to find such classy and yummy meals in Thames well no but now we know this place is here I want to return often. So, great atmosphere, warm and friendly staff, Uber skilled Chef and beautifully presented economical meals that transcend you to a place of utter...

We stopped by for a quick bite before heading up the Pinnacles track. The street was quite busy so it was hard to find parking near the cafe. We parked a bit down the road and walked down. The cafe is quite large. There is a large table by the entrance as well as a large dining area by the counter. There was also a fairly large outdoor seating area around the back. The Cafe is connected to a small alley with a few shops. They don't have Wifi. They have a menu as well as cabinet food. The tasting platter did look interesting but ended up going with an almond croissant with an iced chocolate. You order at the counter and the food gets served to you. Both items were quite nice. The Iced chocolate also had a scoop of ice cream and cream. The almond croissant was heated well so it was still crunchy. You had options of cream or yoghurt to go with it. A friend got a bowl of chips and they were nice and crisp, served with both aioli and tomato sauce. The outdoor area was quite a nice place to sit,...

We visited on a Sunday for lunch. Lots of great sounding items on the menu although limited vegetarian options. The service was abrupt / not welcoming (even though the cafe was only half full so not overly busy). After ordering at the counter (2 x Middle East Feast) we sat outside in the beautiful courtyard. This outdoor setting was the highlight of our visit. The food came out quickly (always appreciated) but was missing an item and the portion size was small (we weren't very hungry so our opinion wasn't clouded by being ravenous). After feeling like an inconvenience when asking about the missing item it was brought to our table and awkwardly sprinkled on our plates while we were eating. Sadly, the dish was not flavoursome and we wouldn't order it again. A disappointing visit but at least we can say that we tried the Nourish Magazine recommendation.
