Classic Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

We stopped in here while on holidays because it looked like a nice place and there were seats available. Our kids both ordered toasted sandwiches, my wife bought a bacon and egg quiche, and I ordered an open face steak sandwich with bacon added. We also order a 2 different coffees. The coffees came out shortly before the toasted sandwiches and all looked great. Coffee was above average, toasted sandwiches were the same. My wife wasn't impressed with the quiche, but they can be pretty hit and miss. My "open face steak sandwich" came out a bit later. What was on my plate was not what I ordered. I got a plate of chips with a burger looking thing on it. The burger had the usual - tomato, lettuce - but the "steak" was chopped fine and mixed with more onions than meat and tasted like it was almost a leftover beef and black bean mix. No bacon to be seen ($5 extra on top of the already $26 price tag). Not even close to what I ordered, may have had something to do with the cashier chatting on a bluetooth headset while taking the order. Had 2 mouthfuls but was inedible. Literally bought a $6 pie down the road after that smashed it out...

We went there for a quick bite to eat after a good walk at Crate of the moon. The lady who took our order was unfriendly with no customers service standard. No eye contact or greeting whatsoever. My husband and I picked a Butter chicken pie & Steak Curry pie respectively. Steak curry pie was very gluey and sauce was very strange taste. Pies were luke warm. Butter chicken pie was ok. Pies obviously were source from other company. In house ice coffee was average. Very milky if you like that style. No water provided. My kids ordered in-house cooked meal : katsu chicken with salad and chip & katsu chicken with fry rice and salad. It took 30 mins for my kids order to deliver to the table. No apology for the delay. Chicken katsu was marginally cooked in the centre and salad was abit off. Fry rice was very hard and chewy. I almost send back the cooked meal. Not a happy experience for a $75 lunch. Do not recommend!!!! Horrible customer service the minute hubby & I walked in. Was not welcomed, very blunt manner when making our order. Order was made & hubby asked whether they serve out jugs of water - was told “go over to the fridge and pay”. At this point we decided to not make waste anymore time in this place & requested a refund & reminded the lady her customer service was bad & that she was not accommodating at all.
