An Unforgettable Lakeside Dining Experience
Jimmy Coops Lakehouse is nothing short of spectacular! Nestled on the shores of Lake Taupō, this restaurant and bar offers more than just a meal—it’s a destination that blends stunning views, exceptional food, and warm Kiwi hospitality into one unforgettable experience.
The first thing that captures your attention is the breathtaking setting. Whether you’re seated indoors with panoramic windows or on the outdoor terrace, the view of Lake Taupō is simply mesmerizing. It’s the perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal or an evening of drinks with friends.
The menu is a celebration of New Zealand’s finest flavors. From the perfectly cooked steak to the fresh seafood that practically melts in your mouth, every dish is crafted with precision and passion. Their wood-fired pizzas are a standout—crispy, smoky, and topped with the freshest ingredients. Pair that with a glass of local wine or a craft beer from their well-curated selection, and you’ve got a dining experience that’s second to none.
The atmosphere is both vibrant and welcoming. Whether you’re coming straight from the lake for a casual bite or dressed up for a special occasion, Jimmy Coops strikes the perfect balance of laid-back comfort and refined elegance. The staff are friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels like part of the family.
And let’s not forget the cocktails! The bar staff are true mixologists, creating drinks that are as delicious as they are Instagram-worthy. Whether you go for a classic or something creative, you won’t be disappointed.
Jimmy Coops Lakehouse is more than a restaurant—it’s a place where great food, fantastic drinks, and one of New Zealand’s most iconic views come together to create memories you’ll cherish long after you leave. It’s a must-visit in Taupō, and I can’t...
Read moreThe food is good and the burgers are huge. For the price though I would expect a small side of fries included. The meal ends up being about $50 each for adults which is a bit pricey for a burger restaurant. Southwestern Chicken Tenders- they didn’t have much flavour but were a good portion size. Pulled Pork Corn Chips- the pulled pork pieces are too big and just fall off the corn chips. The sauces had good flavour and the toppings were nice. Would recommend the pork chopped into smaller pieces, or just order the Loaded Corn Chips instead. Fried Pickles- these were good but I was surprised they were whole pickles, not cut in half or quarters as they usually would be. The whole pickle is hard to bite and I needed to cut it up to eat properly. The ranch sauce is nice.
We used the online order system (barcodes on the tables) which is easy to follow. You can also order at the bar if you prefer. Overall the food arrived quickly and was exactly what we ordered. No complaints, just minor changes to make it a little easier to eat. In the summer the restaurant has a great atmosphere and view of the lake from the outside tables. Definitely recommend going when the...
Read moreAs Taupō locals we have been to Jimmy Coops four times now since they first opened. Our experiences have been WILDLY inconsistent every time. Our first experience was with the Reuben, which was about 80% bread and 20% filling- this left me chewing for about 40 minutes to get through it.
Tonight I had a Dusty Monday (my second time getting this burger) one of the three patties was well undercooked compared to the other two. I didn't mind as I prefer my burgers rare, but seemed very odd when I bit into the burger.
Fried pickles have been served cold the last two times we were in, only hot on our first experience.
We had the chicken tenders tonight, which are meant to have Gochujang sauce- instead they tasted like they'd been battered in whole cumin seeds. It was very bizarre.
We were really looking forward to a new place in town, especially knowing the owners also run several other successful restaurants in Taupo. Jimmy's is overpriced, inconsistent, and has a severely lacking craft beer menu compared to Lakehouse which occupied the...
