All the food I rated has been included in the form of a photo, the oyster was actually really good that I thought I was in for a great experience, never have I ever been so wrong.
Bites:
Oysters - good, kind of hard to mess up unless they are not fresh or if the dressing's are not good. $14 for 2
Fish & prawn dumplings - extremely bland and has a real lack of filling. $22+ for 5 dumplings
Bannock Bread - undercooked, black garlic butter needed some seasoning. $9
Small:
Ceviche - chef definitely did not taste the ceviche before sending out, bland once again and full of water at the bottom for some reason? packed on to a tiny bowl which from memory included some chip. $28
Grilled octopus - This was cooked well, it wasn't too chewy, however they didn't scrub the outer slimy skin off (yuck) $27
Asparagus with Ricotta marshmallow - Great concept, beyond bad execution. This was the most disappoint dish we had here, and possibly all of Wellington, we got around 10 - 12 twigs of asparagus, that was woody because they didn't trim off the ends, then it was served with what I believe was raw asparagus diced up maybe 1 - 2 stalks max... this was served with a ricotta marshmallow that had more of a texture like a foam. Again bland. $27 or $28 I cant quite remember, but all honesty I rather forget.
Large:
Lamb rump - This was the most edible dish that we had, but nothing to rave about and definitely not worth $45.
Beef cheeks - Bland again and quite dry, potato puree was probably the best part of this beef cheek. $45
Fish - cook well, but again bland bland bland. $45
We ordered a macaron and a truffle as a birthday treat since we couldn't get a cake sorted, we paid $350+ (from memory) including all our drinks, but never again. My family and I don't have high tolerance for salty dish's and we felt that nothing was seasoned.
On a side note, it wasn't busy, maybe 5 or so tables.
Service and oysters were good though.....the...
Read moreOverall, our experience at the restaurant was unfortunately quite disappointing. We encountered several issues with the food that greatly affected our enjoyment of the meal.
Starting with the octopus, we found it to be extremely chewy, burned, and even had a bitter taste. It was not prepared to our expectations, and this aspect was a letdown.
Moving on to the main course, we ordered the lamb shoulder, hoping for a succulent and flavorful dish. However, it turned out to be dry and had an unpleasant smell. This greatly diminished our dining experience and left us unsatisfied with the quality of the dish.
Furthermore, our dessert, the walnut custard, was a further letdown. It lacked any distinct flavor or character, rendering it bland and unmemorable. We were hoping for a satisfying and indulgent ending to the meal, but unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations.
On a positive note, we would like to acknowledge the friendly and attentive nature of the staff. They were welcoming and provided good service throughout our visit, which was a bright spot amidst an otherwise disappointing experience.
We sincerely hope that the restaurant takes our feedback into consideration to improve the quality of their dishes. We believe that with some adjustments and attention to detail, the restaurant has the potential to create a more enjoyable dining experience for...
Read moreI was just walking down Cuba looking for a bite to eat when I realised there was a new restaurant I hadn't noticed before, so of course I had to pop in and check it out. I had a fabulous time. The service was incredible - my waitress was incredibly friendly, kind, and attentive. The staff were very knowledgeable and able to talk me through the vegetarian options and recommend drinks. The food was stunning - I had the cheddar puffs to start - an indulgent, rich entree, and then the ricotta gnocchi as a main, which was a huge portion of delicious gnocchi in a tangy, flavourful sauce, with a generous garnish of fresh basil. The pine nuts incorporated into the dish added a stimulating texture that complemented the soft gnocchi excellently.
I also had a delicious Jameson-based cocktail called the Irish Maid that I loved. I was hoping to treat myself to dessert but the main was so huge I couldn't fit anything else in!
Overall, one of the best fine dining experiences I have enjoyed in Wellington, and definitely a new jewel of Cuba street. Once again, my compliments to the servers - their service was faultless. My waitress is definitely an asset to her team!
I think this is an excellent venue for an intimate date or a family dinner. I will hopefully be returning with a friend soon to treat her to a birthday dinner (if I can persuade her to...
