This came recommended from a Google search as a good place for breakfast. On arrival it wasn’t too busy so we thought this would be nice and quick to be served but we were wrong. Staff can only seem to be able to handle one order at a time, taking an order the proceeding to out that together, they ignore customers waiting and treat you like you aren’t even there. We were just about to walk out but finally got served after about 10 minutes of waiting at the counter. They don’t rely on table numbers, when our coffees were made they just yell your order out and don’t bring it to the table for you, not a big deal but just worth noting if you have a disability, use a walking aid or even just totally unaware. The other odd thing was when food is made they just come out shouting what they have In their hands, makes it confusing if a number of people have ordered the same thing! The food was what saves this place, it is fresh, tasty and very good portion sizes. I had the pancakes with banana and bacon, the pancake was huge and really thick, looking at it I thought it was going to be terribly stodgy but it was rather the opposite, really light and fluffy but dam filling, I could only eat half! I wouldn’t recommend this place on service as it has a heck of a lot to improve on but food wise it is a good spot.

What a wonderful café! I wish I had one in my hometown; although our hometown is full of excellent cafés, this one is exceptional. What makes it so special? Well, a lot of the meals can be made vegan, and a lot of the meals can be made gluten-free. As I continue on my journey and develop gluten sensitivity that comes and goes, it’s really helpful to have options. They use organic dairy products and free range meat. All that’s lovely, but just look at these pastries! An addition to all of the items that you can have made-to-order, they have an exceptionally large selection of savory pastries, ready to eat, such as pumpkin blue cheese Filo and mushroom miso pie. They had Mexican pies and samosas. Perfect for a quick grab, and they will heat them there if you need them to. Plus, the prepared sweet pastries looked exceptional as well. If you view the photo of my husband standing next to the pastries, you will see that look of joy and excitement on his face. What a selection! Did I mention this place stays open very late? And that it was centrally located and only steps from our hotel? If we had more days in Wellington, we would be here every day!

The coffee shop that launched a hundred copies in New Zealand, Midnight Espresso was the beginning of the "coffee revolution" by the Kiwis. It opened in 1988 and while the neighborhood has changed (and calmed down a bit) and the patrons have changed (and are a bit more mainstream), it's a lively little spot with a fun vibe. Food is served around the clock starting with pastries and pancakes in the morning and moving to burgers and nachos later in the day. What's awesome about Midnight Espresso is that they are open late. Way late. 7:30 am weekdays and 8:00 on weekends, closing at 1:00 am. There's music, there's a fun vibe, there's some history. Five stars. This was the best flat white I had all week across five cities of New Zealand.

Hey listen these 5 stars I gave, do not show the other 20 stars i give it. I mean when i go to this legendary Midnight Espresso, Coffee for a cafe on Cuba and i want to see yummy, i just look behind the glass & through their righteous cabinet by God, if im feeling dusty, from a viscous bottle the night before, all my dreams come true, when i stumble into this temple of fresh eats, its a luxury that on more than 1 occasion, I seriously have considered ordering everything, bc my mind be like, you just can't order 1 thing alone, from here, the rest of that yummy food, why, they wouldn't stand still for it, yeah thats right, because the staff present it, so magnificently fresh. The important thing to remember at ME ( midnight espresso) , they are consistent and this constant in beverages and in food, putting it all together, means i will seek out this cafe, no matter what part of town , i stayed in for 24 hours. it works for me like a charm. I'm so undecided, about life, but never about eating and drinking from Midnight Espresso, everything looks so good, and all of it so yummy and fresh buzzy and healthy bright , i will get a sandwich or bagel filled, to eat there and then with a beautiful cafe, no milk, a little bit of water on the side. Omg.everything just bristled with goodness and bulges, lols, this morning, again. This Food is so tasty and awesome, even the people that order their usual morning coffee, to go, hot dayum 😍 🔥, they are very pretty and friendly, which is the best way to be, to me in the morning.. when I go there, I keep meaning to photograph my breakfast even the sandwich I will take away and be enjoying the eating of it, in the late afternoon, and everytime, i go there, well gee my munchies are so massive, there never are any pictures, so did it happen? You ask yourself ?? because the food there is that good, in the blink of an eye, 1 of the world's greatest photographers forgets about the film stock, and be that as it may, forgets about the actual camera, why, you ask. Well what is that telling...

Visited twice, first time was late after a gig, great friendly service, great tasting latte and one of the best ginger slices. The food looked awesome so we went back the next day for breakfast.

Ordered pancakes and hash brown stack, another great Latte and a creaming soda, milk shake, the staff were very confused, had to order the milk shake a few times until another staff member confirmed they did do it all good a new member of staff not knowing but now my anxiety peaks as I feel is my fault. They take my money and on to the next customer. So I go join my Partner at the table. A few minutes later I presume the owner comes over with my coffe and tells me it's not table service I have to get my order from the counter.

Now my anxiety is really going for it as the music is quite loud, the conversations are loud, there is a large gathering at the counter and the staff mumbling the orders. I am now getting into my stride with sensory overload as well. Then the owner comes over with a mocha and tells me he presumes that's mine as well, saying no, he walks off without another word. Straining to hear anything now, and nervous I will miss the order shouted, then the waitress not waiteressing brings over the milkshake. Now I am confused as I didn't hear them shout and now I feel the owner is annoyed because we are getting table service.

Anyway through out my anxiety, sensory overload with paranoia now creeping in, they bring the food to our table.

I don't mind having to go get my own food etc, but customer service would be nice, being told what to expect, wouldn't have caused me to have a mini internal melt down.

The breakfast was average, pancakes a little singed, the hash brown stack was one hash brown?

All in all, night time service was fantastic, daytime needs work. The ginger slice and coffee I will go back for,.... At night.

The art work on the wall is fantastic, absolute must see.

Please appreciate your customers, we need guidance as to what your...

I have been to midnight many times and had good experiences, but this one experience destroyed it all for me. while i was trying to order a young girl (early 20s? blackish hair) at the till was dancing about and singing along to the very loud music and not giving me her full attention. we ordered a vegan breakfast. and we waited... and waited. in the background one of the staff members was calling out a large vegan nachos, when we heard it a second time we turned around and told them it wasn't ours, sorry. then the girl who had taken our order stormed out of the kitchen holding the nachos, came up to us and said "this is your order". yet again, we said no, we didn't order that, sorry. she then began VERY LOUDLY telling us to take our order, and that this is what we ordered and why don't we take it? YET AGAIN, we said we did not order the nachos. she then proceeded to stand behind us and say that we had ordered the nachos, that she heard us say it (we did not) why wouldn't we take our order and then started to almost wave the nachos about saying "i'm just talking to myself, no one is listening to me", over and over. I honestly thought she was having a mental break down. It was so bad that two guys at a table next to us even suggested to her to just take it back to the kitchen as free food for the staff, since you have to pay before you get your food. but that wasn't good enough, she stood there for another 30 seconds saying how all this food had gone to waste. so we finally said, "fine we'll take it but it's not ours". she then decided to leave, with the nachos, even after she had bullied us into taking them. I was shocked. one of the other staff members eventually brought our right order out, and apologised. I was too shocked to even complain. walked past two weeks later to see she was still working there, she should not have kept her job. I will...
