5⭐s are just not enough, Fugue is exceptional in every way. We had gone not knowing what to expect but when the sharing platter concept was explained to us, we bought into it straight away. We had the most flavoursome meal where every component balanced with and complemented the others. For example the slaw had the umami flavour of miso whilst the tenderstem broccoli was slightly charred with bitter notes and the carrots were sweet and al dente. My partner's prawns were huge but full of flavour too. We shared a dessert - homemade passion fruit cheesecake. The piece was huge but light and delicate. One of the best elements of the whole experience for us was the approach of the owner (who served us, no airs & graces here, just a passion for food which shone through from the get-go.) and his wife: without being overbearing, they took us through the ethos of Fugue, its history and how they create the menu to match the seasons. O M G! Listen up!

I've been in Dunedin for about a year now, having moved from the UK... now the UK serves pretty good food too, yaknow!

But... Fugue! #takesabreath

I don't even know where to start. I came here to 'try' it before we moved to Auckland and I must say I LOVED every minute of it.

Let me set the scene, the resturant was quiet, its raining outside, my partner and I walk in, table by the window, he comes over and we're like... we're vegetarians! Duh duh duh.... 'it's ok' he says, and proceeds to bring out a pure platter of delight. He knew me better than I knew myself.

Easily.... the best thing I've ever had in my mouth.

It's all I thought about for the next week. I told all my friends.

I went back again, distraught that they were closed early due to bad weather. I move in 4 days and it's all I want. I've never felt this way about a meal before.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, you must go!

Tell me I'm...

Went here today, messed up one of our coffee orders which is what ever. Food took ages to come out and they messed up my order. Sent it back waited over 30 mins to come out, still didn’t come out so went up and asked was advised it would be another 10 minutes?!?! Canceled it and got a refund, the owner gave us a $20 voucher but doesn’t really fix the issue as we won’t be back. Wouldn’t recommend as there are way better cafes in the area that won’t mess up for your order. Also the waffles are store brought so it should not take that long to redo!...

We went here for a date night to try something new, and we are so glad that we did. The restaurant has a lovely feel to it, and very friendly service from the staff. Happily explaining how it all works here, and roughly how much to get for 2 people. The food is a build your own gourmet platter. (which explains why the food prices seem low) You get a wide variety of small servings of some of the most delicous food in Dunedin. Going to be bringing people back for sure, and telling anyone who will listen! Thank you Fugue!

Try the gastronomic delights of FUGUE St Clair its the real deal. Eggs Benne was a dream, creamy delicious with perfect runny eggs. The staff were delightful, courteous, funny and quick! Made the trip out to the beach again the morning we were leaving Dunefin. It was the day of the PINK concert and even though the place was mental we snaffled a table for 3 as someone left. I wasn't disappointed, staff were frantic but never missed a beat. The atmosphere in the cafe is friendly, easy going and unpretentious.
