I come here every second week with my mother’s group. I’ve been meaning to leave a review for quite some time now but just never got around to it…. My little boy absolutely loves the play area and I haven’t found any other cafe’s in Palmerston North that has something like it. The colourful clean space keeps him entertained and happy socialising with other kids and playing with the toys whilst I can enjoy my coffee! It’s easy to watch the kids if you manage to get a table near by. The staff are so friendly and so accommodating especially when my little escape artist try’s to get into the kitchen…sorry haha! - ( baby gates being installed by the kitchen and coffee machine would be icing on the cake.) I don’t have any complaints - you have to try the curly fries if you go and the BAP. Soooo yum! See you next week for my iced caramel latte 😜🥰🤍

This place has a really nice atmosphere and is very spacious and comfortable. The food was very good and well-priced but the coffee (two flat whites) was a bit bitter. This may reflect my mum and I’s North American tastes, though. The play area was also very tidy, full of toys and books, and a good size for a few kiddos. It makes the cafe very attractive for parents of small children. One of few in town like this. I imagine this would be a very good place to reserve for an event too.

We had the big breakfast, the eggs bene and the chicken pineapple burger plus coffees. All were delicious, the stand out of the big breakfast was the hash browns and beans/ relish. The ciabatta bread was a close second. The service was excellent and the staff exceptional and friendly. If you have kids under 5, there is a play area too. We aren't in Palmy often, but when we are we'll be back! Also there's a surprise if you like creatively finished coffee! See the photos.

Came into Carvings Cafe a couple of days ago for the first time with friends for lunch. I ordered the Spring/Summer Salad gluten-free with the chicken add-on. Received the dish with crispy noodles on top that were not gluten-free, after consuming some of them then feeling stomach cramp I consulted with the staff, and turned out they contained gluten. I was offered more food, but after you feel sick from a meal you lose your appetite instantly. So I got a partial refund for the meal, which I was still not satisfied with, and was told by the staff the reason my meal was not gluten-free because of miscommunication between the waiters and kitchen staff. Which honestly in my opinion is not good enough for people with food allergies. Since I have Coeliac disease my diet must contain no gluten whatsoever. I have severe reactions from it and I have felt sick the last couple of days from consuming this. This was a bad first impression for visiting this cafe, especially since I was in delight to see so many menu items that had gluten-free options available. As I thought this could potentially be a new regular cafe I visited that can cater for my food requirements, overall I am highly disappointed in the lack of attention to care for food allergies...

There's a previous review related to this. The staff were amazing to take up their Saturday evening for us. The structure of their staff and how they work was amazing and on point. Everyone was polite, they made amazing food and it was fresh. They made sure everyone's food requirements were met and they allowed us to change the tables around without any complaints. The majority of our guests all gave us positive feedback. We will return again for a coffee and lunch. The review this is countering, that person wasn't part of our guests. We appreciate JD and his team. They were all amazing and we are glad they enjoyed the atmosphere we brought into...
