Was really excited to try Pete and Mary's Eatery for lunch today. I prematurely started to plan my next visit there before I had even been served today but I think that was a little hasty.
I was attracted to the use of free range eggs/meat and the beautiful looking vegetarian items and cakes.
I ordered a half portion of eggs benedict and and iced mocha with trim milk. The girl at the till asked if I wanted cream on top of the iced mocha and I said no thank you. When the order was brought over, it was an older waitress that delivered it. I noticed there was a big dollop of cream on top and let her know that I had specified I didn't want any cream when I had ordered. She said "It's not cream, it's icecream" and then walked off without offering to rectify the issue. I think it's pretty obvious that if I don't want cream, then I also don't want icecream (especially vanilla icecream that only dilutes the chocolate and coffee flavour that I was after). I was left to scoop the icecream out which left me with half a glass of my drink with melted icecream which meant the request for trim milk was completely null and void. The waitress could see that I was not happy but chose to ignore it which was disappointing.
Not worth my hard-earned money...
Read moreDrove from South Auckland to try this place for a birthday breakfast. Ordered two coffees, big breaky, burger and fries, and a brownie. Was surprised when bill was just shy of $90. The big breakfast was fantastic, eggs perfect, well suited toast, and in house tomato relish was the highlight of the plate. Was not too happy to find out that the breakfast burger that costed $24 didn’t even come with a patty. $10 more than the cabinet bacon and egg bun, and the main different was a potato rosti. Additionally, it didn’t even come with fries, so to order a pattyless burger and fries costed $37, which is more than most restaurants would charge for a sirloin steak and chips. The burger was okay, but nothing special. The fried however were way too oily for our liking. Coffees and brownie were superb, couldn’t have asked for better. If ever in the area I would definitely return for coffee and a treat, but I wouldn’t be too keen to use my life savings to pay for a...
Read moreWOW! This place is exactly what a cafe should be. Wonderful friendly team, who clearly liked working here. The menu is fabulous…we had the ‘hashtag avocado’ and the ‘halloumi stack’ special. Both of these dishes were perfect, couldn’t find a single fault! My partners eggs were cooked perfectly. The use of flavour here is magical, every item on the plate was a perfect addition. The romesco sauce was insane and I could dip everything into it. Coffee was also perfect (I have a cappuccino and never get fluffy milk, these guys did it perfect AND with oat milk) Finally, the cabinet was beautifully presented and we would’ve been happy to choose any of these options. We are actually still sitting here but I had to write a review as I am sooooo delighted to have found this place. The staff were so lovely to, even thought they were full and in peak time! 10/10 if I could give it...
