Armadillo's Richmond — Restaurant in South Island

Dissapointed to the point that will not be back. Group of 5 Went in for ribs on Thursday night. About 8pm Greeted and seated well by pleasent young staff. Tabled cleaned for us by another staff. Menus given and appropriate time to look at before ordering. We placed our drinks and meal orders. Friendly wait staff said will be right back with drinks. 10 minutes later she returns to let us know that they are out of ribs. Fair enough. Later in night, and possibly a busy run.. but 10 minutes after we initially ordered?? 10 minutes after that we had to go to the bar to get our drinks made. Wait staff had been standing around chatting. Saw our table member coming and started making them. Drinks were delivered. Two of the 4 drinks needed to be remade. Wait on food was about right. Ended up with 4 steaks and a seafood meal. Seafood meal was good. Steaks were cooked as was ordered. Steaks were tougher than I'd expect and had to ask for steak knives, i usually dont use one 2 meals came out meat and chips only. Had to ask for the salads. Music was quite loud, asked for it to be turned down as there was some heavy metal playing.We were the last eating guests at this stage. Went to pay for the meal and spoke to the attendant about all the issues we had had. Was given the excuse of was a busy night and sold out of ribs.-Understanadable. Spoke of the wait for drinks and given an excuse of staff breaks due to being busy. -as an employer I understand.. but when 2 are standing chatting behind the bar for the majority of the time we were waiting.. not on. I was told a price for the total for the table. When I asked for a printout to make sure it was correct suddenly there was an issue and the ribbs that we did not get, were still on the ticket. She removed them and then reprinted. Had i not asked to see the print out she would have charged the extra as she was putting it to the payment terminal.

Due to: Drinks issues (time and accuarcy), food not being on the plates (not worried they had sold out of ribs, we did come in a bit later) and then attempted to be over charged, and initially denied it then when I walked her through it she realised and went "oh yeah" with a smile, I asked for a reduction in the cost. She told me that the system could not do it and if it can that and didnt know how.

Overall. Good inital greeting but all downhill from there food was ok, not great. Service was wanting and PR from the final person was appalling. As I told her, we will not be back. 2 of the group were regulars due to the ribs. Smugglars will be getting our patronage...

Very disappointing birthday dinner for my partner. There were 6 of us including my baby daughter. The restaurant was busy and it took awhile for our food to arrive so I completely understand that. Firsty drinks order was taken and we ordered 2 kids meals as they had decided. Drinks arrived and we placed orders for the adults. There was no record of the kids meals being ordered so we ordered these again. My father in law ordered the ribs and the waitress asked how he would like them cooked. She obviously had no idea of the menu and that ribs are pork not beef. We ordered garlic bread. This never arrived at all and wasn't even on the bill at the end of the night. All of our adult meals arrived but no kids meals. We were told they are on the way. 10 mins later I had to ask the waitress that we are still waiting for 2 meals. The chicken snitzel was ordered. This arrived and had gravy instead of mushroom sauce. The seafood meal was ordered. This arrived without any potato croquettes. The price of this meal was just under $40. The waitress said they would put them through as a side. 30 mins later we had finished our meals and we're leaving. Still no sign of any potato croquettes. Seemed there was no communication between the waitress and the kitchen or the chef had no idea of the menu. Very disappointing as these meals were not cheap. Left with out the kids even ordering the sundaes that were free as we were over it. Wouldn't recommend and...

This was the first time we have been to this restaurant, recommended to us by our friends. Excellent atmosphere, and terrific service from lovely young waitresses. Our waitress was very helpful and gave amazing service. She was quick and attentive with a lovely sense of humour. This is also reflected by the name of some menu items, (eg. Schnitz face.)The menu was varied with a wide range of options at reasonable( very) prices. The food was attractively served and was cooked to perfection. I , being a kai moana fan, ordered the seafood workshop, a beautiful package with a plate full of deliciously cooked gurnard with scallops and prawns, and garlic bread. The garlic bread was worth ordering on its own merits. One of my companions had pasta, which was a huge meal. We decided to get a doggy bag for him and the waitress told me with a huge grin that they only had cat bags. My wife had chicken schnitzel and thoroughly enjoyed it. My other companions had steaks, both perfectly cooked to their requested rarity. Portions were generous and well presented. The drinks were served quickly and were as requested.
