Dishery — Restaurant in South Island

One of the best tasting vegetarian brunches I've had till date. Hot chocolate was yummy too. Nice scenery outside and we had outdoor seating as the place was packed. It was quite cold so they offered warm blankets as well. We didn't have a booking but managed to be accommodated. The only thing we didn't like was that we were seated in between tables so the dogs were in very close proximity to our tables. We are afraid of dogs so they kept coming near us and there wasnt any room to move. The tables could have been scattered further as my back was touching the other customer as we sat at our tables. The dogs were sitting with the owners and licking the water bottle instead of the water provided in a bowl on the ground for them. Not sure how pet friendly this place is but if you are not comfortable with pets coming on to you or using same utensils...

The emperor has no clothes. Met up with a group of friends for Sunday lunch and walked away having had a really disappointing experience. The food was largely underwhelming both in portion size and taste. Sadly the service fared no better. While the staff were pleasant enough the delivery of food & drinks were sluggish & sporadic meaning the group were unable to eat their food at the same time & drinks ordered had to be chased up. This was surprising given the amount of staff rostered on. Checking on & maintaining the customer bathrooms to an acceptable standard would also be ideal. Well done however to the individual responsible for the meal descriptions on the menu, they clearly have a degree in creative writing, e.g. The Wild Rice salad purports to contain seasonal greens. Arrowtown local and long time 'hospo oldie' here. Every time I come to the Dishery, I am blown away.

Not just with the excellent coffee and fabulous dishes (everything is always perfect - zero complaints, in fact it's often times the best coffee you can get in Arrowtown), but it's the staff that sets this place apart. Even on crazy busy days, everyone has a smile on their face. I sit back and watch as they straight up kill it. And as someone who grew up in hospitality, and is originally from the States, I can be a bit critical of service. Not these guys, the team is constantly blowing me out of the water. 10/10 on everything.
