Jimmy Cook's Restaurant Greymouth — Restaurant in South Island

After looping around greymouth a couple of times looking for an open and suitable restaurant to have a sit down lunch, we stumbled upon Jimmy Cooks. What a blessing! Absolutely going to return again. Staff were really friendly and kind, happy to accommodate us with 4 kids in tow and when my husband asked if there was a burger option they improvised a chicken sandwich of which evidence suggests he and his beard really enjoyed. Lovely little seating area, interesting kids activity booklets that kept them quiet much longer than usual - and probably the best sticky date and carrot pudding in the country. I don’t know what Jimmy was doing, but it wasn’t cooking our food. We waited over an hour to receive our order, and when it arrived it was mediocre. I also ordered a vodka soda and it arrived with no vodka in it (everyone at our table tried it and agreed, including a non-drinker). When I sent the drink back (which I hate to do) the waiter argued with me. At the end of the meal they tried to overcharge us for multiple items, which we had to ask them to correct. Didn’t have much expectation but the food quality surprised me with great delight in the end. Had the salmon, came with good presentation and the taste is simply superb. The salmon is tender, spot on cooking I’ve to admit. Price may be on the high side but the taste is worth it, it’s a taste that you’ll want to eat again, if you’re in Greymouth.
