We ordered a customized cake for a birthday. It was a simple request: red velvet cake with traditional thick cream cheese frosting and less sweet. The bakery confirmed that they could make it, charging $105 When we picked up the cake it was tall but the box was short so the lid had to remain open. The frosting turned out to be thick sweet buttercream frosting, in photo thin yellowish cream cheese can be seen between layers of cake with almost none for frosting. Only one of us ate the cake and he threw up violently afterward despite the cake having been kept in the fridge. Therefore we made a complaint, and the bakery asked for photo proof as" learning" experience. The photo clearly show that they did not make the cake we asked for, they acknowledge it's not up to their own standard and offered a refund of $55 and "apologized" for not being up to our standards and preferential for our taste buds. The $50 that we ended up paying is a rather expensive single slice of cake that was thrown up down the toilet but we accepted the refund thinking they are young business with much to learn. We pointed out that the issue is not our taste nor our standard, it is that we did not get what we clearly requested and one of us got food poisoning from eating the cake. The bakery did not take responsibility saying they both ate cake and frosting and were fine. Sure they tasted a little of the cake and frosting when they were at optimal condition. We gave them benefit of the doubt, however the next day we ate the same food we ate on the birthday, the only difference being we did not eat the cake, and no one got sick this time. Advice: Do not take on order you are not familiar with. When customers complain, do a thorough investigation, talk to whoever took the order and whoever made the cake, see what went wrong before you confront customers with" no issues on our end, we only sealed it with thin layer of buttercream…" only to have you proved wrong afterwards. You said you ate the cake and the frosting so should have been fully aware of how the cake was made incorrectly and sub standard still you sell the cake, ruined our special day. -When it clearly is your mistake, own up to it and apologize, do not throw at us meaningless half apology as though it's our fault that we are not happy with the cake. 3.5 years of "professionally making cakes" is hardly experienced enough to be so sure you don't make a mistake. Look up Dearie cake Langdon, ask them for a slice of cake and a lesson in proper...
