Angry Ramen: A Delightful Family Feast with a Side of Surprise

Our first family visit to Angry Ramen in Lower Hutt proved to be a memorable experience, exceeding expectations in more ways than one. The first thing that struck us was the genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The staff's warm smiles and friendly demeanor set a positive tone for the entire meal.

Eager to explore the menu, we dove straight into ordering a variety of dishes. The presentation was a feast for the eyes, with vibrant colors and artfully arranged toppings adorning both the rice and noodle dishes. While we wished the entire order had arrived together, the individual dishes were impressive nonetheless.

The sushi was a revelation. Giant rolls, generously filled, were akin to satisfying sandwiches in their size and heartiness. We also couldn't resist trying the fried chicken, and it was a revelation. The golden-brown crust gave way to juicy, flavorful meat that rivaled even the best Korean fried chicken. The portions were substantial, and on any other day, the sushi and fried chicken alone would have sufficed for our family.

The main courses were enjoyable, though I must confess I had mistaken ramen for udon noodles. Nonetheless, the ramen was tasty, while the Donburi dishes boasted bolder flavors. The portions were generous, leaving us feeling pleasantly full.

We concluded our meal with Japanese ice cream cones. While the presentation was charming, the ice cream itself fell a bit flat. The texture was more akin to frozen cream, and the sweetness was subdued. The cone had a slightly plasticky feel. Perhaps it was simply a matter of flavor preference, but it wasn't a highlight of the meal.

Despite the ice cream misstep, our experience at Angry Ramen was overwhelmingly positive. The standout dishes were undoubtedly the sushi and fried chicken, both offering exceptional value and flavor. Next time, we'll likely stick to these winning choices and perhaps sample a Donburi dish if we still have room.

When Angry Ramen first opened, food was exceptional. We considered the ramen overall to be much better than the shop located on the Terrace and it was Japanese food that wasn't bad at all.

Several months later, we went in soon after they opened. The noodles were half cooked - Still raw. Broth was half developed. Watery and it still needed time to develop. Condiments were cold. Broth was warm - bordering cold. There wasn't any passion or effort. It was no different to Mc Donalds assembling their burgers or meals, half-attempted to get it right. It was just "get it out the door".

Whilst I am willing to overlook any shop with greasy floors or poor interior as long as the food is amazing, the second and third visits were neither. Either the chef has changed or there are too many items on the menu that the chef can't keep up with.

If you want a decent Japanese food in wellington that is quick and priced fairly, go to Kazu on Cuba street. At least their sushi assortment, ramen and taste is consistent. Alternatively, if you want to splurge, go to Kazuguruma.

I hope Angry Ramen lifts their game up. I was excited when Angry Ramen opened in Lower Hutt. I thought it was a gem. Now, it's no longer an option...

Horrible experience, customer service not great, we sat at a dirty table cause that was the best option for me and my son, all the other tables where single chairs and i like my son sitting on the the big long seats. We ate sushi 1st while it was dirty. I thought someone would see the dishes n come take them. Then I ordered raman and literally grabbed the cloth and spray for the table, did it myself, i also took the dishes and put then on the counter. The lady in the front took them and put them in a draw thing... Non of the servers looked at us or even made contact while we were sitting but they did check on other people in the place and they did clean other tables. I didn't like the food i was gutted... I walked out unsatifyed and still hungry. I won't be going back there. Positive was the surrounding the decor of the place was really good,...

I went here for lunch yesterday not expecting anything too crazy good, but I was blown away!! The ramen I ordered was the yuzu miso ramen and I added kimchi. It was so delicious! The portion size was perfect and all the flavours melted together beautifully! The broth was really flavourful and the yuzu flavour got stronger towards the end. The kimchi was yummy and crunchy and slightly sweet. The pork slices were thick and charred and tender. The staff were very friendly and food came out relatively quickly. Definitely the best ramen I’ve had in Welly so far.

On a cold day out in Lower Hutt, we decided a nice warm cup of miso was on the cards. Angry Ramen had been recommended by my daughters, both huge fans of Asian cuisine. We ordered a selection of Sushi, a rice bowl and some miso soup. While the sushi was tasty, it wasn't quite as fresh as I am used to, but it tasted nice and was presented well. The miso was delicious, warm and relaxing, and we also had a glass of apple cider and this was sweet, tart and perfect. While we didn't get the Ramen noodles the rest of the food was fine.
