Good Indian food, similar to other Indian restaurants in Lower & Upper Hutt re their offering of rice, curry, nan, etc. It is not as crowded as the one in High Street (no direct street frontage and thus slightly off the beaten track?) which is to your advantage since service is not superfast (chef is making every effort to get your dish out perfectly, or we were too early?). To do GT justice we need to explore their menu further and sample more dishes.
UPDATE: Initially I rated GT 4 stars (a year ago) but last week (Nov 2021) it was a shock to receive food of such poor quality that I had to revise my earlier opinion. We arrived late and had 20 mins to order as chef was preparing to leave for the (Saturday) night.
Not only did the two different curries taste almost identical, the kedai did not even include green peppers (cucumber bits were used instead) and there was hardly any meat present except for a few, small scraps in both curries. The biriyani was just chicken curry mixed with rice (and very salty). So it was very disappointing and unsatisfying especially after spending a fair amount there. The final straw was the onset of a bad stomach-ache immediately after the meal. Luckily it passed quickly (by the next day), to my relief as I didn't wish to contract severe gastroenteritis. There are some good Indian restaurants in the Hutt with consistently good cooking but GT is not on my short (or even long) list,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place has changed a lot recently. Been coming here regularly for years and years, to the extent that they know me by name, they know our usual drinks and meal orders by memory, and they know my voice on the phone.
It took an hour for the food to arrive after we ordered. There was no water, even after we asked. Our drinks order was wrong, and it took 20 minutes to come out.
When I went to pay, the owner put the amount on the EFTPOS machine but didn't print a bill, so I challenged it. He printed the bill, and sure enough, it had the drinks on that we didn't order. He refused to take them off, because he delivered them to the table and walked off.
We went here every week to every couple of weeks for several years. The bill has never been less than $200. That's getting on for $20,000+ we've put into this place. I think it's time to try other Indian restaurants in the Hutt. I hope that drink was worth you rudely fighting for,...
