The Bay Cafe — Restaurant in Whau

Took my 89 Yo mum there for Mothers day. Thought support the local business. Ordered a Tea and Coffee. Bought the tea and then 10 minutes later my coffee in a takeawauy cup. The girl said"We have run out of cups" There was only 7 people in the place!!!. We ordered 2 of the mini breakfasts off the 4 menus that were available (maybe the rest of the menus were with the cups).

When the food came it was on a 10" plate and had no room for the toast which was plonked on the top of all the food. No side plate to put it on. only the dirty worn table./ Microwave scrambled egg and overcooked breakfast sausage and burnt bacon. Food was absolute SHITE.Asked for a spoon for Mum to eat her egg and they didnt have one . in the end they bought out a very old worn one from the kitchen. This lunch was made worse by the endless trips to the kitchen by one staff with a blender jar of milk. I dont think the coffee machine was working right and they were frothing milk in a blender . Had a stereo going with flashing green and red lights in time with the music. Avoid this palce at all costs No wonder the other cafes in the bay were busy and...

Tldr: dissappointed by their treatment of doordash delivery drivers...

They were great, I never went in person to their cafe but from outside (in person) it looked really busy and full early 2025. A few days later I ordered on doordash and it was great, tasted great too. However, I made another doordash order months later (Oct 2025) and the delivery driver was kind enough to let me know to cancel and that for at least 6 weeks now they have changed management so they are no longer available on doordash. Doordash delivery workers are getting harsh words from the owner for trying to pick up orders as the new owners haven't bothered to remove their store from doordash - again, for weeks.... Dissappointed as they are wasting delivery drivers time and yet are getting cross with them for turning up. The Bay Cafe has lost a customer with me. Old management was great. Their food may or may not still be good but that's not right. This is the cafes...

Terrible service, unfriendly staff with such a negative vibe. It was once a nice place to go but the current owners and staff seem to be in the wrong type of business . I mentioned to a staff member by the name of Jane that the cafe is nowhere near as good as it once was and her reply was "I don't care because I don't own the business". That is truly a terrible attitude. The young Asian guy on during the week doesn't event acknowledge the customers , no welcoming happy vibe. When ordering a takeaway coffee they don't let you know when it's ready , they'll just leave it on the counter . All in all it's a well bellow average cafe with terrible customer service. Luckily there are many more cafes to choose from that offer more customer focused happy...
