A friend told me this would be a good place to eat. I checked it out online and saw good reviews so I went there with a group expecting a good night.
So on Sept 21, 2019 around 745pm, we ordered the spur platter (N9k) and their barbecue chicken and were super disappointed.
The spur platter looked like an afterthought. It was more of a plate than a platter. (Not even worth 4k) The prawns on it were crayfish with their shells still on them there was no more chicken wings so they gave us some stale and old chicken
The "barbecue chicken" was just a piece of dry grilled chicken with NO sauce. I asked the waiter why and he kept arguing that the customer is the one to put the sauce on it. The chicken looked NOTHING like what the picture entailed.
I asked to see the manager to understand why this misrepresentation occurred and what could be done about it
THE WORST PART... The manager came with the waiter and the waiter had put some sauce on the chicken. I told the manager that this chicken was not what was brought before and the menu misrepresented it. All of a sudden, the manager went from 0 to 100 and started increasing his voice shouting "SO WHAT DO YOU WANT... WHAT DO YOU WANT." As he was saying this he kept getting more aggressive and moving closer - Jerking his head closer to me as if he wanted to escalate it further. I had to pause for a second to try to understand what was going on and someone in my group tried to talk to him too. He kept shouting "WHAT DO YOU WANT". In my mind I thought to myself why would this person who is supposed to be the manager and also who was a much older man be rude and trying to fight??? All of a sudden I started raising my voice back at him that he does NOT know how to treat customers...
A. You NEVER ask a customer "what do you want". What you can ask is "how may I help you" or some variation of that
B. You must never escalate problems with your customers especially if the customer is respectful
C. I told him the exact problem but he just didn't want to listen to it but instead kept being bellicose.
After I told him this (and after he realized that I too could shout), especially the first part, he reduced his aggressiveness (but was still highly unprofessional and STILL aggressive) and then started shouting/asking "So how can I help you". And this point I had figured this man just wanted to start a fight so I told them to take the "barbecue chicken" away and bring my bill. I just wanted to get OUT OF THERE.
You wouldn't believe the man just walked away and when the waiter brought the bill they added the barbecue chicken (which they took away). A part of me wanted to argue it but a bigger part of me just wanted to get out of that place and NEVER have to see that toxic manager again.
There is obviously no way I'll ever come back to this restaurant. That transaction that evening spoilt my whole night. I woke up this morning thinking about it and decided I have to give it a rating and review.
I don't live in Lagos and I understand life gets super stressful here but to me that's not an excuse for the manager's behavior. Especially in this "caliber" of a restuarant. That's the type of behavior you expect in Mama Put.... not in a sit down family...
Read moreThis is a calm and relaxing place with a beautiful ambiance that makes you want to stay longer. I really love their food, itâs well prepared, tasty, and served in good time.
The service is also excellent. The waitress who attended to us was very kind, professional, and helpful without being overbearing. You can tell the staff are trained to prioritize the customerâs comfort.
One thing I really appreciated was how family-friendly the space is.
They have a well maintained playground for kids, so if youâre coming with children, theyâll have a good time on the slides while you enjoy your meal without stress. Itâs the kind of detail that makes a difference, especially for parents looking to relax a little while still keeping an eye on their kids.
Another thoughtful feature is that they have a toilet designed for wheelchair users. It shows that they considered accessibility in their setup, which is not always the case in many restaurants in Lagos. Details like that really matter because they make the space inclusive and easier for everyone to enjoy.
Someone celebrated their birthday and the song wowed me. I think I might stop by on my birthday just so they can sing that song for me đ I assure you will really love it especially with the energy with which they sing. The song is unique đ
Between the good food, the excellent service, the peaceful atmosphere, and the attention to detail, itâs a place youâd want to visit. Whether youâre going alone, with friends, or with family, thereâs something here that makes the experience feel smooth...
Read moreI loved the food. It was my first time on a Friday night. There were very few customers, the staff were very nice and considerate. The waiter who attended to me was very interested in me enjoying myself. It seemed a bit too much and I wasn't surprised when he offered me a pen to tip him. The food took so much time to come even with few customers. I wondered how long it would take when there was more traffic. Note to self to never come here on a Saturday. When the food came, it was soo good. We had snail starters, seafood platter, pork ribs, buffalo wings, waffles and a milkshake. The seafood platter was a much better option. Their pork ribs and wings were good but not as good. They are very deliberate with aesthetics and you can see that in the decor, lighting, how they serve their food. Our cocktails were decorated. The temperature was cool and it smelled great. The restroom was fair with a very intentional plan to destroy the bad odor with air freshener blocks all over the place. It still smelled and there was no tissue in the rooms. It was not clean. I think the person in charge of maintaining the toilets is lazy. There is a large parking space with security. There is a wheelchair entrance and a waiting space before you enter the main hall. The food is moderately priced but would be expensive for most people. 1 person would spend about 17,000 on a 3 course meal. Because I loved the food, I'll...
