I will start with the positives: The food is delicious. The spices were balanced and not overpowering and the meals weren’t too oily. The staff were polite and well-trained.
Now for the neutral comments: The chairs are not suitable. They look good but they’re not comfortable to sit in and have a meal because of the side arches. It’s a small restaurant. If all tables are full, it’ll be a squeeze.
And finally the negative comments: Albeit delicious, the food is overpriced. You will have to pay separate VAT. This was the first time I’ve had to pay VAT for already overpriced food without forewarning in the menu. I was not a happy camper. Service is not up to standard. After taking our orders, the customary bread/ butter or small chops were not brought out. We asked the waitress and the restaurant doesn’t provide such services for their customers. It’s for this reason we were not happy to be forced to pay service charge. We paid over N2,000 in addition to our meal for what the staff floundered in explaining to us. The ridiculous cost of takeaway plates. N800 for packing aluminium is daylight robbery. After asking for an explanation for why VAT and service charge was mandatory for customers to pay in the bill without forewarning, the staff ignored our table until we got fed up of waiting and asked to be attended to again. The waiter relayed our dissatisfaction to the owner but whoever they were insisted we had to pay the additional N2,080. We did, made it clear we would leave an honest review of our experience and left without making a fuss.
All in all, this restaurant was not worth over 10,000 for a meal. If they want to sneak in additional charges for this, that and everything chargeable, they will need to be more upfront or customers will never come back. I’m usually very reasonable, and I’ve had a lot of bad service in the time I’ve spent in Nigeria, but this was a new and expensive type of bad service. I won’t say don’t go, but don’t be surprised when you see the bill.
If the restaurant owner reads this, please for the love of God, have your staff inform customers before they place any orders, of the percentage they will pay in VAT and service charges, BEFORE they place...
Read moreDistrict Restaurant and Lounge is a casual dinning restaurant located on Gana Street. We stopped by for lunch a short while ago. If you're looking to eat out on a budget, this is the place to go, they have meals that are kind to pocket. On our visit we had: Pineapple Fried Rice N6,000 × 2 Naija Jambalaya Rice N6,000 BBQ Chicken Wings N4,000 Seafood Pasta N12,500 Pancakes and Ice Cream 4,000 Classic Mojito N4,500 Virgin Daquiri N3,500 Their menu is simple, which we really liked. They serves continental and oriental food. Top favourites for us was the Naija jambalaya rice and the pineapple fried rice. Should you try this out, we'd love to know what you think . If you're someone who doesn't like pasta too creamy, then their seafood pasta is for you. It featured 3 jumbo prawns and crab. One thing we really liked about this spot was the private space at one corner of the restaurant. Here you can stay lowkey, play games such as jenga and just chill. It's a great option for hanging out or chilling with your friends. Their attendants were also polite too, this particular waiter in the video was our favorite. The interior is cozy yet still quite pretty. We'd definitely recommend this spot for for your private events. It's a small space that would especially be great for this. LOCATION: 38A, Gana Street...
Read moreThe District offers a range of intercontinental dishes such as rice dishes, pasta dishes, starters, sauces and seafood options at the restaurant.
For starters, my friends and I tried Peppered Gizzard, Peppered Goat Meat and BBQ wings. Each starter was very tasty and spicy but the star dish was the BBQ wings. The wings were a pretty good size, sweet and juicy which we loved. Only complaint is the goat meat was quite bony.
For mains, we tried Alfredo Pasta, Jambalaya, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Sauce, Beef Sauce, Steamed vegetables and a Seafood sauce. It's honestly tough to pick a star dish because the mains were really good and it was a pleasant surprise. If I had to pick a star dish, the choice is between the Alfredo Pasta and Chicken sauce. The pasta was very creamy and well-seasoned with bits of chicken and mushroom. The sauces were very rich and flavourful however the beef sauce needed a little sweetness, it was a bit tart.
On a side note, I liked the diverse flavours of the dishes I tried. Some dishes were sweet, spicy, mild, creamy and rich. However, I'd really like to see some improvement in terms of plating and...
