This was by far the most expensive—and the worst—hotel I’ve stayed in during my trip to Lofoten Island.
Why was it the worst? The hotel appears to engage in false advertising. The room assigned to me was nothing like the photos on their website. When I made my reservation, the only option available was the 1-Bedroom Comfort Rorbu Cabin. From the pictures, I expected a cabin with a living room, a bedroom, and at least a limited sea view. However, upon check-in, I was given a cramped, studio-style room that was completely different from what was advertised. The bathroom had a huge dead mosquito, the bedroom was covered in heavy dust, and there was an overwhelming smell of wood paint. To make matters worse, there was no sea view at all.
When my husband and I approached the staff to request a room change, they were visibly unhappy and tried to stall us by claiming the hotel was fully booked. It wasn’t until I stressed that I was pregnant and that the smell in the room could be harmful to my health that they reluctantly agreed to move us. The staff member then said, “You’re lucky,” which left me baffled. How could I be considered "lucky" for simply receiving the service I paid for at such a high price?
Moreover, the pricing was another major issue. I booked the room at 7,990 NOK, with an additional cost for two days of breakfast, bringing the total to 8,990 NOK. This was supposedly the best non-refundable, non-changeable rate available. However, after paying, I discovered that the same room could be booked for any two days at a rate below 6,000 NOK. Given that the hotel initially assigned me such a substandard room, it feels like I was overcharged significantly compared to other guests, which is infuriating.
To top it off, I strongly suspect that the subpar room was assigned to us due to racial bias. The staff member who handled our check-in seemed dismissive from the start, and it felt as though we were given the worst room simply because we are Asian. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, especially considering the high price we paid.
Overall, I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel. The deceptive advertising, poor service, and questionable pricing practices, combined with the apparent racial bias, make it a...
Read moreWe booked a 3 bed-room cabin for our family trip early Oct. The first night check in, the Glassdoor of the shower in one of the room just shattered by itself. My aunt was standing next to it and had cut on her hands and feet. Luckily she has already finished shower and was wrapped with towel, otherwise would get more severe cuts. We contacted the hotel staff immediately, while I gave her credit that she came very soon with 1st aid kit, arranged another cabin since we cannot use that room, and got the Glassdoor fixed the next day, the whole experience went south. She kept asking why the Glassdoor shattered which made me feel that she was asking whether we broke it ourselves - sorry who in their right mind would do that? We still had 5 more days of travel! When I wanted to communicate with the manager, she only told me her manager would be available from 11am the next day and never replied me anymore after I asked some further questions. Her manager never proactively reached out to me. The property didn’t reply my email, nor respond to Booking.com when I ask Booking.com to step in till this day (almost a month). We were lucky my aunt was not severely injured and we were able to continue the trip. But we all got super scared when the thing happened. We also understand sometimes things break, so we would only request the property to refund the room charge, not more than that. What irritates me the most is the lack of response and care for customers from the property. So think twice if you wanted to be treated the same - there are many other nice...
Read moreBooked a 1 bedroom deluxe cabin w/sea view, no kitchen. What we got was actually a room that was part of a small building(like a town house row). Not really a problem so all ok. However there was a very fishy smell in the room that despite leaving the windows and doors open for a few hours, did not go away. We put it up to the drying cod that is prevalent everywhere in the area during early June. Following morning, still bad odour - only inside - not outside. After investigating, they found dead fish below the room. Without any prompting, they immediately transferred us to a 2 bedroom cottage with a better view, so kudos to them.|There are a few things that need to be addressed.|- we stayed there for 4 nights and to our surprise, they did not have daily room service. We were never told about this so had to sleep on the same sheets and use same towels. Every other day would have been acceptable.|- self serve laundry room had 4 machines but the room, sink and the machines were not clean to say the least.|- outside areas were unkempt, with weeds and grass growing uncut. But this seems to be common throughout the area.|- cod drying racks, while a feature of the area, didn’t have to be literally within 50 feet of the rooms/cottages.|Certainly by choosing to stay in a Rorbuer, you want the authentic feel but that doesn’t mean cleanliness should be...
