Didn’t think I would be the one to break the streak of 5 star reviews but maybe it was to be. Was impressed by the very highly rated reviews of this place and decided to try it. We went on a Thursday night. The place is little away from where the other restaurants in the area are located. Interiors are traditional Omani style. There are options of table and floor seating. We checked the area at the right and since the tables there were bigger and we were only 3 people we took the second table on the left side. We decided to try their set menu that lets you taste a little bit of everything. We thought it would take time so we ordered 2 skewers of chicken mishkak. Since our waiter asked what we would like to drink, I asked what was with the pomegranate juice and he said it was with yoghurt. Since we wanted something light he suggested the hibiscus juice and we ordered it. We were served the rocket leaves salad, hummus, mutabbal, babaganosh and khubz after a plate consisting of a cheesy samosa, a falafil and a deep fried potato dumpling. After a while we were server the main course which consisted of 3 types of rice, fish curry, chicken mandi, mutton shuwa, cooked camel meat, prawns skewer, regag and honey. Our waited recommended to make a sandwich with the bread, camel meat and honey. Though we tried, the experience of making the sandwich wasn’t great as the bread was too crisp and not easy to fold. All the items were tasty, full marks for that. We were also served a small water bottle. After our meal, we were served a bowl of luqaimat and another sweet which had grated coconut in it. After that the 2 of us were served a glass of mint tea and a digestive concoction. The owners came to check on our experience. Only after we finished our meal we realized that our starter and drink never came. Our bill included the mishkak but it was quickly corrected. A great experience and we would definitely try other items next time. This place is not...
Read moreIf you're in Muscat and searching for an extraordinary dining experience, Ramssa Restaurant in Muscat is an absolute gem that should be at the top of your list. Our recent visit left us absolutely astounded by the excellence of their cuisine and the enchanting ambiance that embraces Omani traditions.
From the moment we walked in, Mr. Naser the owner welcomed us, we witness the true traditional and contemporary culinary artistry. The intricate lamps, ornate hanging carpets, and finely old crafted wooden furniture showcase the rich old heritage of Oman, making the restaurant a perfect setting for both a special occasion or an intimate dinner.
However, it's the food that truly steals the show at Ramssa. We ordered the special set of multiple Omani cuisine. The array of dishes is not only a feast for the eyes but also a symphony of flavors that dance on your taste buds.
We started our meal with an assortment of apetizers, including mouthwatering moutabel, hummus, samosas and khubz. The main course was equally impressive. The camel, chicken and lamb meat pieces were tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection, a true celebration of the traditional slow-cooking method. It was surprised to know that camel meat was cooked on slow flame for 6 hours.
The dessert selection continued to impress with their innovative twists on traditional Omani sweets. The rosewater-infused rice pudding and fragrant mint-flavored kawa tea were a delightful conclusion to our meal, leaving us with a lasting, sweet memory.
Mr. Naser was more than happy to explain the dishes and provided insights of spices and his love of opening this restaturant which added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
