A few people have praised this place to me, and just to clarify, this review is based solely on three dishes. I'll need to return for a more comprehensive experience. Nonetheless...
We ordered the Cebiche Costeño, Causa de Langostinos, Chupe de Pescado. What they recommended though was one of the 7 'Los Originales' dishes, and although I did see the Paiche (looked decent), we stuck to our choices.
Cebiche Costeño - The lime juice was lacking, prompting us to order extra slices, and it lacked spiciness. It might suit someone seeking milder flavors. Additionally, it lacked salt and surprisingly they used Perico, which was unexpected considering the price. While I'm okay with Perico as I buy it all the time at the market, I anticipated a step up. It's worth noting you can upgrade to Lenguado or Corvina.
Causa de Langostinos - The potato texture was creamy and well-mashed, but it lacked flavor and salt. Fortunately, the extra limes we requested helped enhance it. The Langostinos weren't prominent but had a good ratio. The dashes of Salsa de Olivo was a nice touch though.
Chupe de Pescado - This was my favorite. While I wouldn't label it as the best Chupe I've had, it was pretty good. It had a great balance, good saltiness, a creamy texture, likely from the evaporated milk, and the broth blended well with the rice, veggies, and fish.
Positive: -The establishment is beautiful! Modern yet not pretentious. Offers patio and indoor dining. -Maracuyá Chilcano was very good.
Negative: -Despite being quite full, they took a while to bring menus, which should be instant at this price range and they definitely didn't have QR codes on the table. -Two menu items we tried ordering ‘Corona Sunrise' & 'Tiradito de Pejerrey y Conchas' were unavailable. A little surprising but worth mentioning. -Canchitas (toasted corn) - small detail but some of the worst in my opinion, might have been that we arrived quite late though.
In conclusion, I may have to return to try their recommended 'signature' dishes, but they should have their classic seafood options down to a T. Remember, taste in food is...
Read moreThis was one of the nicer restaurants we ate at during our recent trip to Lima. We started with the Wantanes Capitales which were delicious. I had the ceviche with the fish of the day which was very flavorful. I especially enjoyed the sweet potato that came with the dish. I finished off with the Domo Choco-Lucuma which is a chocolate dome filled with mousse accompanied with vanilla ice cream. All the dishes were excellent.
Service for the most part was good. We were able to get a table without a reservation for lunch at around 12:00. They have menus available in English if you request them. The servers was generally attentive but it was harder to get attention once the lunch crowd arrived. The decor of the restaurant is modern but casual. There are both interior and outdoor seating areas. We sat in the interior space which had a glass roof with wooden louvers which let in indirect sunlight. We will definitely be back if we're in...
Read moreWe arrived at (6:15pm) and the place was nearly empty. This had me doubting all the reviews I read and even the need for a reservation. It didn’t take long to realize that 6:15 is and early dinner in Lima, I suppose.
Any initial concerns we had were quickly erased as the service was excellent and attentive, without being overbearing. Our questions were all answered politely and patiently (like most places in Lima) even as we struggled through limited Spanish. (Side note: Google translate does not do so well with local cuisines).
In the end, we had the pasta negra (with mixed seafood). I usually don’t like fruit de mer, but ate and enjoyed everything except the pulpo (octopus).
This was followed by a variation on ceviche (which was amazing) and corvina (Chilean Sea Bass).
In the end, we were too full for dessert, but thoroughly enjoyed our last...
