After months of seeing their picture-perfect donuts on Instagram, we finally made it down to Las Piñas to try them for ourselves. The drive down on the Skyway wasn't too bad on a Sunday and there is parking out front when we arrived.
In the charming little cafe with macrame art adorning the walls, we sat at the cozy nook on the side next to the cake display (best view!). The afternoon ambience is sun-lit and bright with homey touches like the plants, fluffy pillows, and repurposed wood tables. Ours happened to be an old sewing machine with even the foot pedal still attached!
We ordered the crispy grilled cheese and the roasted tomato pasta with sausage for our mains, and a strawberry lemonade. Don't be fooled by the seemingly small plates. We had intended to leave extra room for dessert but were stuffed! They had a special blend for their roasted tomato sauce that wasn't what I expected and the grilled cheese, although gooey, almost tasted like pizza with the raw red onions mixed in with the onion jam - also unexpected.
But it's okay as what we really came down for was DESSERT and that didn't disappoint!
We ordered a slice each of the carrot cake and the ube macapuno cake. The carrot cake was moist and not too sweet. The cream cheese frosting was a great complement and didn't overwhelm the cake with sweetness. Indeed, it was deserving of its BEST EVER CARROT CAKE self-title. The ube macapuno ate a bit heavy, with ube both in the cake and in the frosting, but definitely had great ube flavor. I couldn't resist trying the overload chewy cookie - it was chewy and sweet with crisp edges, just the way I like it.
Now, you might be wondering what happened with the donuts - wasn't that the whole point? Well, we took their 9 remaining donuts to go! On hand, they had tres leches, strawberry cream, and milk chocolate. For their premium flavors, you have to preorder them a day before. I tried the tres leches and the chocolate ones when I got home and WOW. The donuts were the right texture without being greasy. The sugar dusting and the filling were just the right amount. Even the size of the donuts were just right to leave you satisfied without feeling like you ate too much. Perfect donuts worth going back for on any...
Read moreFlour Jar is one of the new place that opened in Las Pinas that have caught the instagram world with its crave worthy doughnuts. I have so far visited the place twice already. So here is my honest review for both visit combined. The place is a beauty homey and chic kind of vibe. A place that the yuppies would love to have a photoshoot and chill. For best experience of lightings go for a morning visit. I visited the place both times at night so lighting wasn’t that good.
Food and drink wise I got a mix of good and bad on the quality. Bomba Nachos this was good and packed. Love the overall topping and cheese they’ve mixed. For the salad, we got the gwapa salad it was okay and serving size was also big. Refreshing and good. For the pasta, hmm this was a fail for me. We tried the brown butter carbonara and calamansi basil pasta. The pasta noodles for both visit was overcooked. It was not perfectly cook and when we try to tell the server that it was a bit overcooked she answered al dente po ba?. We just laugh at it. I think the pasta has a potential to be really good they just really need to cook it properly or change to a higher quality of pasta noodles. The strawberry acai smoothie bowl was again good. Love that it got a big serving and was not too overpriced at 180PHP. For the drinks the charcoal calamansi juice was refreshing good while the pink latte w/ gingerbread was not that good for me.
For dessert this where they excel! Their doughnuts are really good and a must try. Just be sure to call to reserve ahead of your visit. The cakes are really good love the Hokkaido Milk cheesecake. Not too umay and really good.
Overall if you are looking for a doughnuts and cake place this a good spot. Suggest eating somewhere for dinner and ending here...
Read moreI love the vibe of this place! But I don't know if I'd wish it was bigger (to increase seating capacity but lose the homey vibe) or remain the way it is (and deal with not being sure of getting a table when you have a craving for their milkshakes. Which are sooo thick the metal straws stand up.)
I love the fact that they constantly come out with new menu items. I love most of their pastries. Especially their calamansi pie! Key Lime Pies got nothing on this one. Yummmmmy!
Their doughnuts are worth going there early and falling in line for. They only make a limited amount and don't make anymore once they sell out the day's goods.
I haven't tried any of their savory menu offerings since I mostly view them as an after-dinner place. But I did hear from friends that their pastas are actually good. So there's that. 😊
Parking is a bit of a problem in front of the place though so we normally park inside the compound and walk. It's less than a...
