AA BBQ Main — Restaurant in Cebu City

This is a very difficult thing for me to write. But today(May 26, 2022) I had a very negative experience in AA Guadalupe, which came as a surprise. AA Guadalupe has been one of my favorite places for years, my wife and I also ate dinner there when we got married. I have never had a negative experience here with either staff or food. BUT today it was bad and they had a very inexperienced and unprofessional "dinner supervisor". My wife and I went there for a good dinner, everything was as before, we picked what we wanted to eat, our waiter was professional and nice as usual, so all good. But then came the food ... everything was cold very cold. Even my favorite Baked Scallops was so cold that it was not once lukewarm, even in the hand they felt cold! The content was therefore hard and unappetizing. The waiter apologized and wanted to immediately return the food, me I asked to speak to the responsible supervisor. After about 15 minutes of waiting, she came alone. Then I understood more of the problem, this was a totally inexperienced / unprofessional person to guide the staff there. She apparently had no education or training with customer care. The waiter we had was more professional and skilled than the supervisor. Of course we got new food, but I do not think the supervisor neither understood nor cared that they had messed up for us, if this was my first visit I would of course never have returned. I hope they have got a new, more professional supervisor when I return. AA Guadalupe cant return to the good pleasant place I have experienced for years of they dont get a professional supervisor. But the waiters there were perfect as always.

I like AA's BBQ, thats why it is such a hit in Cebu - locals and foreigners alike! The variety of food - Seafood can't be beat. I was supposed to rate them 5 Stars but ended giving them barely 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The portions seemed to be smaller recently and prices for the value and portions of food has gone up?! Ordered Spicy/Crispy Squid - and was served only half of the squid - I am certain. Gone where the days where what you have chosen and pointed during ordering ala "SUTUKIL Style" is exactly the same. The Grilled Bangus w/ butter in foil does not have the same amount of "butter" thus losing its nostalgic taste. The shell in sour soup was not fresh as 80% of the shells has not opened. The "lato" salad they added salt making it too salty and bordering unpalatable - as to my limited cooking knowledge it is a no no to add salt to a Lato salad since it will always be paired with a vinegar sauce which will add to your desired personalized taste or preference. I wanted to love the food as I have grown to love them over the years but just like anything in this world - nothing stays permanent, not even the food and taste quality of AA's BBQ. A good suggestion is to keep the seafood in temperature regulated displays/ref to keep its freshness, & inform the guest of the grams/kg of chosen seafood so they know the portion of what they will be served. AA BBQ has long been our go-to spot whenever the cravings strike for something hearty, soupy, or grilled. It’s a place that never fails to deliver when it comes to flavor, especially if you're in the mood for lutong bahay or classic BBQ.

Their barbecue is a definite standout. The meat is always perfectly grilled, tender, and flavorful. Paired with their signature sauce or “sawsawan,” it's hard not to come back for more. To visit AA and not try their bbq would be a missed opportunity.

Seafood lovers will also find plenty to love here. The variety is impressive and the preparation always on point. My personal favorite is the fried bangus topped with crispy, garlicky bits, simple, but absolutely satisfying. For those craving something warm and comforting, their pochero and seafood stew are highly recommended. Both are rich in flavor and perfect for a rainy day or when you just need that homecooked goodness.

That said, while the food continues to impress, the service can be inconsistent. During our most recent visit, the attendants seemed disengaged and unwelcoming almost as if guests were a bother rather than a priority.
