In a nutshell:
Long before the many dimsum houses and restaurants, we had Ding How. Yes, for all you young ones out there, this is the OG of Dimsum. I had my first dimsum experience with them back in the early 80's, and I can tell from experience alone that the taste of their steamed fried rice is very different (it's tastier) from the common ones we are used to having today.
They were the first here in Cebu to have the "A La Carte'' style serving which literally means that all your favorite dim sum dishes are carted around, and all you do is pick, and they serve. I still cannot get over the tasty desserts they had - especially the mango custard - which all but extinct nowadays.
So yes, now they're back and the taste hasn't changed. The palace might not be as big and spacious as their counterparts, but their location in Banawa makes eating there more enjoyable and peaceful.
They have modernized their ordering process, so I'm not sure how to react to that. Maybe I was just used to the old school ordering style they used to do. Anyways, enough of the nostalgia .... hehehe
How to get there:
Go to Banwa Town Center, you won't miss it since it's beside Gaisano Supermarket. (You literally have to pass it before going to the supermarket). For those traveling by public transportation, you may have to walk a bit from the main road (prob from the bus stop just near McDonalds). This is accessible to all modes of transportation, except of course when it's raining.
Pros:
"still" delicious and different taste of Steam Fried Rice (dimsum style)
online ordering
accessibility
near the supermarket
also near Zumba grounds for those who want to eat after Zumba :D
They have new items on their menu
friendly and helpful staff
complimentary side dishes and tea - please take advantage of this :)
The place is just nice and quiet enough to chill and unwind
Cons
They don't have their own restroom - you have to use the one near the supermarket
No Mango Custard :(
No watermelon balls :(
it will be a hassle if you don't have data for the online ordering
Conclusion:
I never get tired of coming here and ordering my steamed rice. Add in you fave siomai + crab pincers, and ginger sauce....heaven!!! I definitely am coming back to try their other dishes (hot and sour soup) and looking forward to...
Read moreDined in at lunch time on a Saturday that wasn’t so busy, and our experience was not the best. We felt very inconvenienced by the “digital” style of ordering. They present you a QR code which you have to scan and mark all your orders out of a checklist menu. My companions joked that this is why we dined in and didn’t order through online haha
And the food was alright. Did NOT like the battered chicken. Dry, tough, and barely any flavor. And it was way too expensive for that kind of taste! Even their steamed rice was subpar in comparison to the other dimsum places. The only thing i would recommend is their fried wantons and the beef steamed rice. Don’t like their cucumber juice, it was way too concentrated and sour.
The wait time was way too unnecessary as well. Their cucumber juice took 20minutes, and we were parched since they don’t offer any service water. We received our fried wantons when almost all our food...
Read moreDing How is hands down the best dimsum I've ever had. Located in Paseo Arcenas, Banawa, Cebu, the place is neat, well air-conditioned, and has a great vibe.
You order by scanning a QR code, which takes you online to place your order—efficient, though it might be a hassle for those not tech-savvy. Service was great.
The food was the highlight—everything was delicious. The beef sate noodles were rich and savory, and the beef steak rice and steamed rice were excellent too. Every dish we tried was tasty.
I’ve had a lot of dimsum, but Ding How stands out. Highly...
