My wife and I were eagerly looking forward to dining at Shakey’s after being away from the Philippines for three years. Unfortunately, our experience at the restaurant was quite disappointing and far below our expectations.
Upon entering, we noticed that no staff approached us despite seeing us standing and waiting to be attended to. After several minutes, a waiter named John Ryan, who identified himself as a captain and has reportedly been with Shakey’s for 13 years, directed us to sit at a dirty table. His demeanor appeared irritated, and we felt unwelcome. My wife had to clean the table herself using a wet tissue just to make it suitable for dining.
Following this, the waiter briefly handed us the menus and then walked away. When we called him again to take our order, his attitude was unprofessional and dismissive. During our meal, we requested water from John Ryan , who simply placed a pitcher on the table and left without further assistance. It was also apparent that the manager was present in the restaurant but did not intervene or address the situation.
When we asked for the bill, I inquired about the identity of the waiter serving us, and he confirmed it was John Ryan. Despite his long tenure and position, his behavior did not reflect the professionalism expected in such an establishment.
We opted not to cause any disruption and left after settling the bill. However, I feel compelled to bring this matter to management attention because such unprofessional conduct damages the reputation of Shakey’s and, by extension, the business itself. The staff were not accommodating at all—I’m not sure if they were judging us based on how we looked, as we were just wearing slippers at the time. We’re just very simple people.
We followed up on our order multiple times, and after almost an hour, it still hadn’t arrived. It turned out that our pizza hadn’t even been prepared yet. They apologised, but I was already frustrated. Still, I chose to stay calm and asked if they could just box the food for takeaway. But instead, they put it in plastic and said they couldn’t put it in a box because our order was supposed to be for dine-in. Like, what the heck?!
