TERRIBLE RESTAURANT. Im on a business trip here in Cebu, I’ve tried several restaurants already around Newtown and I’m happy every time I eat out, but not until this time. I didn’t feel the hospitality of Cebuanos in this restaurant compared to other restaurants that I’ve tried where I really feel how warmth Cebuanos are. Whenever I passed by here I always see a lot of people and even queuing outside the restaurant, so I have the impression that this is a good restaurant so I decided to give it a try, but unfortunately it was just the worst restaurant I’ve tried during this business trip here in Cebu. Food: -not everything are available, the staff will just guide you to the most expensive on the menu rather than asking what does the customer wants -taste is just so so nothing special Service: -terrible staff -terrible service training -staff are nice to foreigner customers and local Cebuanos but since they knew I speak tagalog so they definitely had the impression that I came from Manila -I ask several times just to have water on the table, they served my food already without even checking or asking what drink would I like to have compared to the other table where a Korean was sitting. I saw and hear how attentive they are when it comes to foreigner customer compared to co-Filipino. SERIOUSLY??? -to the staff who is wearing black uniform during that duty time which I supposed he was the head during that time, you’re not put there in that position to just hide whenever a customer has concerns regarding your service. Dont bring out your trainee to face the customer, have the guts to face the customer. Store: -so so, nothing special -normal store design and ambiance Get your own dose of experience from this restaurant.

Terribly rude manager. He was taking our order and he insisted we order more saying the black shrimp dish was not enough for 2 people. We didn't want to spend big money so we felt very pressured and forced. We asked if lechon kawali was good for how many people and he paused for a second (as if he was trying to win a negotiation?) and told us it was good for 2. But as you can see in the pictures the lechon kawali dish was significantly smaller than the black shrimp dish, which already felt big for 2 people. So I just don't get what he meant by "not enough for two", or "good for two." He was also acting as if there were extra dishes in the kitchen that they wanted to dispose of? He kept insisting we order certain items. I still remember the disgruntled look on his face when my partner told him instead of mango smoothies or bottled water we wanted service water, which they failed to serve on the first time. I honestly don't know why we had to pay an extra 44 peso for the service charge. They even improvised our table by splitting tables for 6 people so we couldn't use their condiments which were at every other table except ours. Although I liked every bit and bite of their food, the overall experience didn't feel as pleasant as it should have. I'm inclined to visit another Choobi Choobi, just not this branch.

Their black pepper shrimp was good and crispy although it took a long time for the dish to be prepared, it felt like it took more than 25 minutes. The waiter was also insistent on how we should get more than 1 dish, which was already expensive enough, urging us to spend even more. He told us the black pepper shrimp was not enough for 2 people, but it was not the case at all when we got our order. The shrimps were large and were definitely more than enough for two people. He was trying to guide us to some other item on the menu too that was expensive, but since he said the shrimps weren't enough, we ended up ordering lechon kawali too (which they said was enough for 2 people), but the serving was actually small, way smaller in comparison to the shrimps. I would've rated it higher if the staff weren't so persistent and let the customers just order what they wanted.

Update Saturday 20th April 2024 I have amended my rating to 1 star. I arrived here at 8.05 pm and sat in the queue outside waiting to be attended to. Many of lighter skin who arrived after me and were further away in the queue were immediately offered a menu and their orders taken. I was totally ignored. Can the management of this place please explain if they prefer customers of fairer skin? Is Newtown and your restaurant a place only for fair-skinned people? If so, kindly put up notices to that effect so I know that I'm not welcome at your establishment I await your comment!

Known as the best restaurant in Mactan Newtown, my expectations were high. I ordered the vegetable tempura. 😭The batter had not been seasoned. 😭Why didn't the chef taste it first? 😭Only had pumpkin and okra. So much other vegetables in the market. 😭They could've used chilli, cauliflower, broccoli etc āœ… Batter was...
