Fat Jim's Steak House — Restaurant in Mandaue

Second try here. Thought I’d give it another shot after our first experience. We ordered pastas, appetizers and their steaks and salmon. The salmon was great and cooked well. They asked how I wanted my ribeye, and I said medium rare, but they ended up servinh it well done..

Today, on our second try, we ordered filet mignon and ribeye steak for our mains. (with the appetizers, moz sticks, calamari, etc). filet mignon to be medium well and the ribeye medium rare, but they ended up serving the ribeye well done and the filet mignon medium rare, a little bit disappointed again but the appetizers and sides were good but it wasn't served hot as i expected it to be. We certainly didn't enjoy the steaks, they were seasoned pretty well but it wasnt cooked the way we wanted it to be. The pasta was a 10/10.

Honestly, i would comeback for their pastas and not the steak. Steaks were pricey as we expected them to be so they should at least be cooked to our liking. I don't see the point of the waiter/waitress asking how we wanted it to be cooked if it wont be followed anyway. The atmosphere was nice, and the staffs were accommodating. Overall I'd rate my experience a 6.5/10. It was ok.

Despite the increased prices, the quality of the food here had never changed. The staff are also friendly and caring, although the atmosphere had changed due to less customers and the staff chatting to each other frequently.

Regardless, the 400g Angus Ribeye Steak is to die for. I’ve asked for a medium and it came perfectly grilled, and seasoned intensely well. With each tender and juicy bite, the flavour was elevated by the salt and pepper. I would say that even the price went up, this steakhouse is very much worth the price when compared to the recently opened Yappari Steak (main branch in Tops) in SM JMall (200g for P780+).

Special mention to their seafood pasta! You can taste the essence of fresh seafood in this dish, alongside the aroma of white wine. Similarly, the pasta was al dente, which is a huge plus. I would say that this can compete with the likes of Giuseppe’s seafood linguine (near Streetscape Banilad).

Overall experience was not so good. We were the only big group (13 pax), that the time, and 2 other tables with 1 and 2 pax.

SERVICE - Unsatisfactory ** No warm welcome, no smiles that would make you feel valued. Staff has been staying in the counter, and I have been asking utensils over and over and they are hesitant to serve. They don't want to give you extra glass, plates, etc. Service is totally terrible and again, unsatisfactory. FOOD - Portion sizes is a bit small for its price. Mozzarella is too salty, not recommended. The taste was just enough of a typical salt/pepper. LOCATION/PARKING - Accessibility is a bit challenging as the entrance is along a provincial road. No one will guide you to enter as it is located in FLC Building where offices is located. Parking is a challenge as well as most of the time parking space is not available due to its limited slot.
