Disappointing Experience at Chef Doy's: Poor Service and Unfriendly Staff
My family had lunch at Chef Doy's, and unfortunately, it was far from a positive experience. The staff were not warm or friendly; they didn’t engage with us at all and seemed to avoid any interaction. Our orders, which were simple, took an unexpectedly long time to arrive. What was even more frustrating was that the staff didn’t even bother to apologize for the slow service. They just let us leave without offering any explanation or letting us know the cause of the delay.
As I scrolled through other reviews, it became clear that this is not an isolated incident. Many other customers have experienced the same indifferent attitude and slow service. If you're planning to celebrate with a small or large group, I would strongly advise against it. The food was served one by one, leaving everyone hangry by the time the last dish finally arrived. And despite the high prices, the service certainly didn't match the value.
Parking is another issue—if you plan to drive, expect to have difficulty finding a spot. Overall, this place didn’t live up to its reputation, and it’s disappointing to see a lack of improvement despite consistent feedback. There are plenty of other dining options that offer much better service and a more...
Read moreWe had a “surprising” experience in a sense that 3 out of 5 published menu choices we wanted to try were not available at that time. We usually go to local restaurants by looking at their website and choose the unique ones they offer… but sadly they said “we did not stock them up.” So perhaps, you may consider calling them first to check if those types of food - which make you go to this resto are available.
The taste of the other options like batang batang pusit (these pusits are like fetus pusit!), sugpo (not real sugpo but just the ordinary smaller shrimps- therefore they should not put sugpo on the menu) with gata, kalabasa and sitaw, and bbq - they are all tasty!
It was also kinda awkward having somebody standing like more that a meter beside you, looking at you while you eat. The tables farther the counter were all occupied and perhaps they did so because of that.
Overall you go to this restaurant for the tasty dishes but when you are craving for something they cannot offer , it is really...
Read moreStandard Filipino food, but certainly not "gourmet", as the name implies. Crispy Pata was chopped up and crispy, no complaints. Bicol Express was different than we've had before, authentic shrimp paste. Side of rice is a bit expensive at 55 peso ($1), since you can buy a kilo for that here. Sinigang was good, but not very sour. The soup is meant to be sour, but mine was kind of plain. My wife adds lemon juice and tamarind.
Only complaint is that they are so incredibly cheap with the tissues! We spend 3000 peso and they don't put tissues on the table? They had some at the cashier area, but I had to go get them myself, and even then they were tiny and cheap and fell apart in your fingers. Never seen a "gourmet" restaurant not give guests decent tissues to wipe one's fingers and mouth, especially after eating crispy pasta with one's fingers. Come on, guys.
Anyway, decent food, but nothing special. We will be back, but will bring wet-wipes since this place can't...
