Full disclosure:
I am an American from Texas so I have to lower my expectations compared to the food that I would eat at home.
This is my second time to eat at House of Birria and I purposely waited to post a review because I wanted to give them another chance after the first time which was underwhelming.
The Good:
Meat tasted good although not extremely flavorful making it acceptable but not authentic.
Food was very warm when delivered primarily because I live 1km away from HoB.
The lemons provided with the food were acceptable but limes is what really should be served with these tacos.
The Bad:
The tortilla is more like a rice-paper based eggroll wrapper than a true corn or flour tortilla again detracting from the authenticity of the tacos.
The consomme lacks flavor which I noticed during my first time ordering HoB. This time, I tried only one bite dipped in the consomme to confirm that nothing was different - it wasn't and I used my own store bought salsa for the remainder of my tacos.
The HoB salsa did not taste fresh this time or the previous time. It's not the worst salsa but it seems like it's been sitting around for a long time which makes it mushy and lacking in flavor.
The Ugly:
I can't say anything is ugly at either of my two orders from HoB.
Overall:
These birria tacos are not the most flavorful or authentic but are definitely worthy of trying if you want tacos that have been adapted to the local market.
I will order them again mostly because it is close to my house which makes it a quick way to...
Read moreI had high expectations for House of Birria based on all the rave reviews, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The birria tacos were underwhelming—the meat lacked the savory depth I expected, the cheese seemed low quality, and they were overstuffed with veggies, which threw off the balance.
The consomé for dipping was another disappointment—it was bland and didn’t complement the tacos at all. To make matters worse, the meat was riddled with chunks of fat, making it unpleasant to eat. At one point, I nearly gagged. For the price they charge, the quality just doesn’t add up.
The service didn’t help, either. The woman at the cash register seemed indifferent and didn’t even bother to smile, which made the overall experience even less enjoyable.
I’ve had far better birria tacos in Baguio, where the meat was incredibly tender, falling apart with every bite, the cheese was generously portioned, and the consomé was rich and beefy. Compared to that, this place falls completely flat.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend House of Birria unless they seriously improve their food quality and...
Read moreI was excited to try House of Birria PH because of the hype, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. The food was overhyped and didn’t justify the high prices. For the amount you pay, you’d expect better quality and flavor.
The service was also disappointing. The girl with the long hair and cap wasn’t accommodating at all—barely smiled, seemed more focused on her phone than the customers, and didn’t even provide basic essentials like tissue and utensils unless asked.
Overall, it was a letdown. Definitely not worth the price...
