(April 2023: Black Saturday Merienda) Mary Grace is one of those reliable restaurants you go to if you can't decide where to go but you just want traditional, uncomplicated comfort food. It just feels like home on a hot summer afternoon, eating food mama used to make -- like ensaymada and hot tsokolate. Only, so much more expensive than you remember (thanks to inflation caused by the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine). This particular branch in Promenade, Greenhills, looks like any other branch of Mary Grace, but bigger. It has two floors! But somehow, on this day, it was nearly full. Food was great, as usual. The chocnut hot chocolate (they ran out of the classic Mary Grace tsokolate) was sweet, thick creamy, and really tasted like chocnut, the beloved Filipino peanut & milk candy bar. The classic ensaymada was, well, classic -- cheesy and sweet. The growing teen ordered the fili beef & tomato sandwich and was somewhat satisfied, although he still would have preferred a burger. We would've ordered more but I wanted to eat in Le Ching. All in all, the food was great, as usual.
