Searched for an alternate place in Tagaytay for lunch as our original target place had like 3 hours waiting time. Yeah yeah the part of the restaurant where reservations allowed was full. So we decided to roll the dice and we lose.
So with all the hassle of driving through narrow streets and walking from parking, i thought I'd give myself a break and find one that has a great view of Taal and with 'no-hassle' parking.
Searched and Voila! TAZA is in Taal Vista Hotel - Fairly good ratings and of course big parking space so.. Go kami!
Started with the Flat Bread with 4 dips, It's ok but having tasted a lot of Mediterranean/middle eastern dips, it left me wanting as my tastebuds and thoughts were comparing them from Marcia Adam's and Hossein's. Not a fair fight.
The much vaunted Mushroom soup was 'as advertised'. Sublime and earthy but surprisingly refreshing - i should have ordered two! This is how mushroom soup should be.
The Pasta too did not disappoint! The Carbonara was 'Herb-ie' i.e. spices had just the right touch and it had just enough richness that did not overpower. Me wondering if this is one of those "milk/cream-less" ones.
Ink squid was tasty and delicious as well and yes it doesn't have the fishy (lansa) taste so you can tell that the squid was fresh, soft and well-prepared.
Got disappointed with the Steak though. Ordered the Rib-eye and the NY Strip, asked for 'Medium' but we got 'Medium-well' to well-done instead. I know this is not gourmet steak quality so my expectations were not that high. But because of the done-ness, much negotiations between teeth and meat had to happen.
The sidings were great and generous but sadly the gravy was almost tasteless and watery. Sayang, panalo yung pasta pero nahatak pababa nung steak ang overall food experience.
The ambiance is another story of course because it gives you the full majestic view of Taal lake and you can't ever go...
Read moreI found this outlet at Taal Vista after hours of scouring the internet, and since it's a 4 star hotel within a prime location (and on the more affordable side vs Antonio's), we had high expectations. My partner and I went for an intimate dinner with the following dishes: Squash & Arugula Salad, Truffle Flatbread, Ravioli, and Hanger Steaks.
Salad-- I don't even get the combinations of this salad. The dressing, the red capsicum, etc. Was it supposed to be a salad? Idk. Was it supposed to be a viand? Idk.
Truffle Flatbread-- I can barely taste or smell the truffle. Underseasoned. But dough is ok.
Ravioli-- it was meh. The ravioli was 5 pcs at most (that's like P100 a piece!) A big as the mouth of a tea cup. It was like eating flat dimsum, bathed in an underseasoned sauce.
Hanger Steak-- at least this one was a bit redeeming. The doneness was great (medium rare), the meat was soft and tender, and they got the demi-glace correctly. French beans and carrots were ok, too.
In a nutshell, it was supposed to be a good night. But its frustrating to pay almost P4,000 for food which weren't palatable (to say the least). Sadly, I could've enjoyed better and hearty food with this amount.
The outlet seemed to be lacking in food quality audit, and a bit of nudge from the management. If I were the head chef, I wouldn't let those food out...
Read moreDining at Taza Fresh Table on a cool Tagaytay evening felt like discovering a hidden culinary gem. The experience began with a mezze spread that awakened our palates - the hummus was ethereally smooth with just the right nutty undertones, while the babaganoush delivered that perfect smoky depth that makes eggplant shine.
The chorizo arrived sizzling in a bath of golden garlic oil, its richness begging to be sopped up with their fresh, warm pita. But the true revelation was the sautéed liver - transformed by the garlic confit into something sublime, with a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that defied expectations.
Then came the showstopper: a magnificent tomahawk pork chop with a glorious caramelized crust giving way to juicy, flavorful meat. The accompanying garlic confit added just the right luxurious touch.
We ended our feast with their molten chocolate cake - a warm, oozing masterpiece that provided the perfect sweet finale to our Mediterranean journey.
Taza Fresh Table delivers not just a meal, but a memorable dining experience where every dish tells a story of flavor and craftsmanship. That pork chop alone is worth the drive to Tagaytay.
Don’t miss. The tomahawk pork chop and the molten chocolate cake—trust us, you’ll thank...
