3 to be generous, but specifically 2.5 stars.
TL;DR Just buy the fish related dishes and pasta. Their drinks are good especially during a hot evening.
We went to this resto as it was highly rated here in Piazza Grande among others. We were very hungry and didn't have the patience to look all throughout the menu so we took the Summer Salad and the Bistro Specialty Bundle for our meals. We were glad there was a Bundle that was fit for 3-4 as there was only three of us. This Bistro Specialty Bundle included the following: Best Fish and Chips in Town, Smothered Pork Chop in Brown Gravy, 3 pcs Crispy Fried Chicken, and Seafood Aglio Olio. So, here is our meal experience and review for each dish according to the order it was delivered in.
Summer Salad: It could honestly be better. The greens weren't fresh, most of the leaves looked dead and had browning at the edge. The vinaigrette was not evenly distributed. Presentation was meh. The fruits were okay. And there was also one long small bread stick. That's it, perhaps other salad may be better but I'll leave that review to the people that tried those.
2.1 Aglio Olio: Pretty Good! Everyone was satisfied and really liked the taste. Would recommend for others to choose this.
2.2 Best Fish and Chips in Town: It really is The Best Fish and Chips in Town. Hot and fresh when it was delivered. The fish was not overcooked. It was juicy and still remained hot for a long time. Fries/chips were the perfect cut, not too big and not too small. Even if it cooled down we still liked to eat it. The side dishes/sauce(?) Fit perfectly well that we ordered another one of those as all of us kept on dipping whenever we ate the fish and fries/chips. If the fish is like this for all related menu dishes I would really like to try all the others choices. HIGHLY RECOMMENEDED!
3.1 Smothered Pork Chop: Disappointing. When we ordered the Specialty Bundle, we have high expectations for all of the dishes in it considering its part of a "Specialty" Bundle. This was just super disappointing for us. Not only was it late, the meal experience, every time I took a bite, regressed each time. I thought at first it wasn't bad but each time I took a piece, it just became harder and drier. Perhaps I had a somewhat okay experience at first because I doused it in its gravy but it couldn't fool me the second, third, so on and so forth. Everyone agreed that it was hard and dry and it seemed that it was only me that felt okay at the start. Honestly I expected this to come together with the fish and pasta but it didn't. Perhaps it was delayed in delivering thats why it overcooked/rested too much that when it arrived it was only lukewarm and hard. The vegetable side dish as well is obviously overcooked that we didn't bother eating eat. My other companion tried and she usually eats all of the vegetables and other veggies but I guess this time she didnt want to. The rice was okay, had bits of salmon in it but it was enough for us who were super hungry.
3.2 Crispy Fried Chicken: Read 3.1 Smothered Pork Chop.
The service was confusing. We believe that the whole row of restaurants are owned by one company, so its waiters and cooks are familiar with each other. So familiar that the meal that you expect to come out of Fish & Co. came out from Modern Shanghai instead. I didn't expect that our meal would also have a share kitchen?? As mentioned earlier we could see waiters coming from the Modern Shanghai bringing food to the other resto. Maybe it's normal for others, but doesn't it seem liable to confusion for everyone? It looked like Fish & Co. had its its own kitchen but most of its food came from its neighboring resto. I'm not sure if it's a bad thing, but that may be the reason why our meal's quality was like that. It also seemed like there was a lack of staff as the Maître d was the one handling outside as the waiter. It was hard to call the staff as everyone looked busy. We wish we could call the Maitr d but the big menus was in the way. I wish I could go on but there's a limit here. Anys, just look...
Read moreWe took advantage of their anniversary and offer of 50% off - to sample 3 of their fish and chips dishes (for sharing). The fish was top-notch quality- crispy, lightly-battered with a just-right texture to the fish itself. However, I was really struggling to distinguish between the New York, Philadelphia and Swiss fish n chips. And I would have preferred the thick British style of thick-cut French fries for the 'chips' portion.
Tip: cross order from the sister Modern Shang resto while eating at Fish & Co. We got the wonderful egg drop rice of Modern SHANG.
Last tip: Bistro Group drinks are absolutely the best and sometimes steal the scene from the food...
