After dining the past 2 years we were excited to return, only to be very disappointed. The location is the best part, a table by the open windows gives great views of the square, very hard to beat the setting. The venue itself is also pretty good, nice decor, if a little dated at this stage. The food was ok, we had a tikka masala and a tiger prawn curry, both were good. Garlic naan was much better than the peshwari, which was underwhelming and we wouldn’t order again. By far the worst thing about Masala was the service. We attended on a slow Thursday night about 1900, and waited over an hour for 2 simple curries and some sides, far far too long; no real apology or reason offered. The beer was also served in a recently washed, still wet glass, not the lovely frozen one I had last year. Even when our food arrived nothing was said. An order of “4 popadoms” apparently means 12, and they were also poor….we although waiting over an hour for food meant most were ate. This place is also just too expensive, we were charged 349z which is very close to £70, and even included an automatic 32z service charge….for 2 people when the service was woeful. For clarity, for that bill we got 4 popadoms, 2 curries, 1 rice, 2 naan and 2 drinks. Not sure whether under new management, or what the story is here, but we left very disappointed and sadly will not be back. There are much much better places in Sopot, especially in this...
Read moreOverpriced, average - they charge you for tap water and plain rice
We ordered Murg Madrasi and Nigiri Murg, both chicken dishes. In most Indian Restaurants, rice is included and you pay extra for bread. But here, they charge you for the rice too. The food is overall average.
Clean toilets very pleasant smell (perfume diffuser?) when you enter the restaurant from the main entrance downstairs. quick and good service (we were the only guests) professional waitresses who totally understood why we didn't want to pay extra for tap water, and made no fuss about it. Good doggy bag packs. (We don't like throwing away food).
The chicken had this funky taste like most frozen chicken breasts/filets do. The sauces tasted average. The Madrasi chicken was not spicy at all (although the menu said it would be spicier than the Nigiri Murg - it wasn't). They don't serve tap water. A small bottle costs 10 zlotys, and it's not indicated anywhere on the menu. However, you can fill your own water bottle in the toilets for free. plain rice costs an additional 12 zlotys, which is very expensive and again, it's not on the menu list either. No AC. No terrace sittings.
For these reasons, this place deserves 2...
Read moreInterior of the hotel is good with comfortable seating and nice ambience, that's about it. We had to wait for around 40 mins to get our order and reason for that - they got all ordered items like starters along with main course at one go. As many others have mentioned, food isn't authentic in any way and prices was way too high, what should have been around 30zl they are charging around 50zl with no proper taste at all.
Chicken Biryani was like concentrated masala rice with all vegetables you can think of including Broccoli. Mutton Biryani was bit better because of one good thing - Mutton was cooked properly and vegetables was bit less compared to chicken one. Panner Mutter Masala was very sweet and tasted completely different made by amateur. No proper starters in Chicken and we ordered tandoor chicken with gravy (gravy wasn't good). On top of all this, 10% service charge.
Better not to visit here and waste your money. Instead we can have couple of plates of Fish and chips with Beer and be happy with...
