Have been in Spiżarnia restaurant today, however it wasn't our first time here. The service is always very kind and polite, maybe not the most relaxed staff, but definitely friendly.
First things first, we could bring our dog with us. I know, to some it might sound silly, but to me it's super important (just as to people with kids I guess) and I'm very glad there are places such as this, where my dog can quietly spend time with me (under the table😊). Waitress kindly asked if the dog bites (absolutely not!) and brought Henry a bowl of water. She petted the dog, seeing he's friendly. Very nice touch, thank you.
Now the food. We both made the same order - Entrecôte (55 PLN) with small fresh salad on the side and homemade fries. The meat was absolutely gorgeous! Better than in any so called steakhouse in the city. Ordered rare, served rare. Tender, nutty, tasted like meat, not rosemary (happens all the time in other restaurants). On top it had a.. miso butter? We were sceptical at first, however it really gave the meat extra kick and genuinely underlined the flavour of the steak. The fresh vegetables had a hint of a really tasty vinegret. I would only complain about the container, which the salad was served in - small and narrow, it wasn't easy to eat from it with a big fork. Lastly, the fries... Well, it's really hard to get good fries. People might think that fries is the top easiest fast food meal, where in fact homemade fries take lots of time and preparation. So the fries were no good. Soaked with oil, didn't get enough heat perhaps. They had a really good shape, so somewhere on the way one step in the process went wrong and the fries turned out terribly. Other than that, the dish was great, you just cannot go wrong with a good quality, perfectly fried steak.
At the end I had an espresso, it was a good one. Ach, and at the beginning we were served free-of-charge entry - a regional fish-paprika paste on a slice of bread with gurken mousse. Yum!
Summing up - place located in a basement, light interior, clean and just kind of cosy. Always very happy with the food, the menu changes seasonally I think, they always have intriguing positions. The staff with a little distance at first?, but polite and friendly. Good place to have a great quality food and time. Big plus for the...
Read moreEverything we ordered was very very good. The dishes are traditional but prepared with lot of care and in a modern way. To start we took the paprykarz which was homemade with a delicious picked cucumber jelly which worked out perfectly with the paprykarz. We also ordered the zurek served with a fried eg instead of the usual boiled eg which is a very good idea! I would only reccomend specifying that mushrooms are in the soup if the someone has allergies. Goose and buckwheat dumplings were also very nice. The bone-in pork chop fried in lard was the highlight! Good quality of the meat, very tender and well seasoned. Served with potatoes and a refreshing cucumber salad. It is not easy to find a traditional but at the same time modern polish cuisine and this restaurant exceeded our...
Read moreFour of us were dinning and we each got something different...you know...just in case. We had the goose pate as a starter. None of us had ever had that particular combination before and it was wonderful!!! One had the duck, one had a beef noodle something, one had the fish, and I had a portobello and sausage soup. Now we have been in Szczein several weeks and eaten out every meal somewhere different and seriously this was the best meal we had. The wonderful mead (mmmmmmmmmm) made up for the not very good tap beer. But the reason I only gave four stars is because I like friendly service. Now this may be just how everyone is here because I can count on one hand how many smiling faces I've seen here...but it's...
