We walked the extra distance to this restaraunt to avoid the crowded main part of town that didn't have anything that appealed to us. We were hoping for something more authentic and less touristy (yes, I get the irony considering we're tourists).
The server was a really nice young gentleman who greeted us and prepared a table for us. We were shown a QR code for an online menu in English which helped.
We ordered the 'broken eggs' starter and the bacalhau special main with a glass each of the house white wine.
The house wine was really pleasant and easy to drink.
The starter came out and it was easily big enough to be called a main anywhere else. Soft eggs with thinly sliced and fried potato as well as mushrooms. The server breaks the eggs up and mixes it all together at the table (hence broken eggs I suppose!) not sure what sauce was in it but for something that seemed so simple it was really quite delicious.
Then the bacalhou came out and it was a big piece of cod fish with onions draped over it and sitting on a bed of fried potato slices with a nice pool of olive oil around it. Some items on the menu say 'serves 2'. This wasn't one of them, which makes me wonder just how big those others are!
It was amazingly soft and fell apart on the plate with a fork.
While the food was exactly what we were hoping for, the highlight was the young waiter who was funny and had a great wit and we enjoyed conversing with. If we're ever back in Évora, definitely...
Read moreWe've reserved this restaurant in order to try the typical Alentejo food. As we were arriving a bit later than the hour we had reserved we've called in advance to inform we were arriving 30minutes later, they were nice to keep our table reserved. As we arrived we checked the menu and ordered a pork cheek, a pork loin, 'migas' and a grilled fish, to a really arrogant waiter that for sure does not like what he does... The place was full (5 or 6 tables) but even considering this, it took too long to serve the dishes, we were waiting for 45min for the food. As soon as the things started arriving the owner (Adelino) checked if everything was on the table and directly saw that the pork cheek was missing the apple puree, so he went to the kitchen to grab it. The pork cheeks were good, the pork loin also, the fish and the pork served with the 'migas' were a bit salty. The overall experience is good but they should consider changing waiter, otherwise they are losing...

After few seconds you will love this traditional Portugal place and you will look forward to enjoy your meal. During the waiting time you will get very tasty tapas – we got olives, bread, octopus salad. We highly recommend this place but to be sure that you will have a table – book it in advance. We went around at 7 pm and booked) the table to 8 pm. It was full during the evening and people was waiting a long time to get the seat. It is a cozy restaurant for app. 20 people but definitely you must try it during your stay in magic place Évora.
